We spend nearly $100B a week on those items, his $1B fraud is about 1% of the total spend, from a rough guess provided from people in the treasury. Curious that he says he asked them what % of the spend is fraud and instead of telling us what the agreed to % was, he tells us dollar amount. I wonder what the percentage was… ---

I know a number of folks on SSDI, including a child who receives death benefits due to their parent being deceased. It is not much money, most of them get a mere pittance, as in about 800 per month. All of them cannot afford their own housing, so they reside with others. One case of which I am familiar, the disabled person hands the check to his mom, who pays for heat and electricity, and gives him an allowance. Without it, I shudder to think what might happen, since she is elderly and also collects regular SS. They certainly are not living high on the hog, and she often asks for assistance from her church for food. She did not vote Trump, but most of the other disabled that I know about…they are trump voters. But I don’t want leopards eating their faces, since most of them are just not very well informed, and highly suggestible, and a couple do truly have physical issues as well as mental. Their politicians have deluded all of them, and nearly all of them are nice people, and I hate to see bad surprises coming for them. ---

Are you possibly referring to SSI - because SSDI ( _Social Security Disability Insurance_ ) or Survivor’s benefits are not normally a pittance although they do depend on the worker’s income. ( If I had died leaving a 13 year old child, the child and my spouse would each get $2500/month) SSI is something different - that might be around $800 but it doesn’t depend on having any work history at all. I guarantee that SSI recipients are most at risk even if Musk gets chased away from regular SS- because that’s the program that looks the most like “welfare” ---

It would be interesting to hear who “told him” about that magnitude of SS retirement fraud. Sure is contrary to anything I’ve heard working for SSA for 38 years. Re; SSA disability benefits - DIB or SSI, you ought to realize that the system really does not work to get benefits to those you or I might consider the most needy or deserving. Instead, all it does is administer a complex bureaucratic framework, putting people into pigeonholes. I really cannot figure our what societal “good” DIB accomplishes. It is essentially today’s welfare, plus an opportunity for some folk to boost their overall retirement benefits. Sure, plenty of disability applicants overstate their difficulties. Happens ALL THE TIME. Plenty of doctors support claims with few findings and little treatment. Many folk are physically and mentally capable of performing SOME undemanding, low paying job - tho such jobs might not exist in their immediate area. Lots of benefits merely go to compensate insurers for longterm benefits they pay. And no one has ever explained to me why vets can get 100% VA disability AND SSA DIB - with no set off. Plenty of room to improve the system. But I have no expectation it will happen in any intelligent manner. Of course we are still waiting for someone ANYONE to nudge withholding/retirement ages/etc to stave off insolvency… Medicare is its own special kind of mess.
