If Putin does it, he won’t do it all at once but one by one, installing a puppet to keep each one under control in turn, freeing up his military to take on the next one. As to nukes, your post is self defeating. MAD means UK and France won’t nuke Moscow for invading one former soviet bloc country. Or the next, or the next. ---

His reasoning would be that the UK will not start a nuclear war (and its own substantial annihilation) for the sake of the freedom of an Eastern European country. And he would be correct. ---
