Surprising musical moments on a usually non-musical television show

I always thought she looked like she (the space hippie girl) was flailing away on an old fashioned steering wheel from a car. Maybe a Buick.

I LOVE this video! It’s said that Mary and Ed gave up some of their dialogue to make room for all of Georgia’s number.

Bonnie Bramlett (of Delaney and Bonnie) was part of the cast on ‘Roseanne’ for a while. There was a scene on an episode (“Scenes From A Barbeque”) where they were all chilling in the backyard and she sang ‘You Really Got A Hold On Me’. that was just spine-tingling. It was a surprise to all of them as it wasn’t in the script.

“I can’t believe it. It’s only Chris Martin from Coldplay! Chris, what are you doing in a factory in Wigan? It’s mental!”

“Chubby little loser…”

I’ve always thought they just polished a wheel off a Schwinn and handed it to her, saying “Here. Use this.”

. Good one!

Arguable how “non-musical” the show was but Motorhead singing Ace Of Spades on the Young Ones immediately came to mind….

Harpo Marx on “I Love Lucy”.

Harpo plays “Take me out to the ball game” on I love Lucy

Colin Hay singing “Overkill

New York Philharmonic conductor Alan Gilbert made a cameo on 30 Rock introducing the Phil’s performance of “a special three-hour arrangement of the theme from Sanford and Son.” (Likely a nod to Alec Baldwin’s gig as their radio announcer.)

There are a bunch of songs in The Magicians.
“One Day More” from Les Miz:

“Here We Go Again”

“Take on Me” (very interesting version IMHO)

Brian

Ninja’d. But I give you instead, Robert Morse (Bertram Cooper) in Mad Men singing “The Best Things In Life Are Free”:

There was a wierdly and highly stylized musical number/dream sequence on the medical drama ‘House’. For the life of me, I cannot recall what the song was….but the delivery was wildly entertaining.

For the Paper Chase folks - here you go:
You’re Gonna Hear From Me

When one of the interns died on Bones, the rest of the cast reminisced about him. One mentions that his favorite song was “Coconut” by Harry Nilsson. Later, they spontaneously sing the song in tribute to him.

I always liked the Hamlet musical on Gilligans Island.

I have never come across anyone else who remembers that, neither from the original show or its countless reruns. My Evil Brain, on the other hand, has been taunting me with far too many bits from the musical version of Hamlet since it originally aired back when my age was in single digits.

My age is now closer to triple digits than single ones and my aforementioned Evil Brain still randomly squeals “Hey! Remember this?” before serenading me with things like “Hamlet! Hamlet!/ Don’t be a lamb, let/This be your solemn vow” or “I ask to be/Or not to be/That is the question/That I ask of me”.

I also can’t hear music from Carmen without hearing the Gilligan Hamlet lyrics.

My brain hates me.

Everybody Loves Raymond: a relative visits from The Old Country, and at one point they sit around the table and sing (rather bawdy) Italian folk song.

Hamlet dear, your problem is clear: avenging your father’s death!
From Ophelia, no one can steal ya

I’ve always enjoyed this scene of Jason Segal playing along with Rush’s “Spirit of Radio” from the show Freaks & Geeks. It starts off with an epic jam session with Rush but then his dad comes in and just hears the drum part so that makes it more comedic.

Also, I know we’re not supposed to be in to Father Ted anymore (the creator turned out to be an anti-trans prick) but I think fans of the show will still always hang on to “My Lovely Horse.” I get this song stuck in my head whenever my friend talks about her horse - and that is a lot.
