There’s a straightaway on the north side of the DC Beltway, outer loop (westbound), where the Mormon Temple is straight ahead of you for a mile or two. Other than it’s not emerald in color, it looks like Oz. There’s an overpass across the Beltway along this stretch. For years, it used to bear the graffito, “Surrender Dorothy”. ---

It’s still sort of there. The words have been painted over, but if you know what you’re looking for, you can still see the “Surrender Dorothy”-shaped blotches. (it’s on the side a railway bridge, just west of the Georgia Ave. exit.) ---

There used to be a band called Surrender Dorothy. I don’t know if they were just local Chicago or if they had a Big Contract. That’s all I got. ---

For those who don’t live in the DC area, [here’s the Mormom Temple](http://www.lds.org/temples/main/0,11204,1912-1-52-0,00.html). The resemblance to Oz is even more striking when you see it from the Beltway, since it rises out of the greenery ahead of you.
