> Depends on how often one has to put up with it. In my case it’s an adult, and I’ve learned to almost always avoid that whole boulevard between 1 pm and 4 pm due to it being taken over by crossing guards and mommies parked in lanes waiting to pick their kids up. But if **Cat Whisperer** has to put up with this daily …
>
> Also, respect is earned. If some kid is out there only to help younger kids cross safely, they need to learn boundaries. One is you don’t bitch out adults, particularly if it has nothing to do with yourself or your job. Another one is you don’t try to make them follow rules that don’t apply to them.

Nah, it only happened the one time (so far), but I also try not to go walking when they’re likely to be out. It was an uncomfortable situation, though, and I’m not keen on repeating it.

I’ve heard that some people need stitches to keep everything together and lined up.

Where did this “red line” terminology come from? The last month or so, it’s been politicians talking about this, that, or the other thing, “crossing the red line” or “being a red line for us”. What, a plain old line isn’t enough anymore, it has to be RED? Does that make it more serious, that it’s RED? Would it be less critical if the line were, say, PINK? How about GREEN? Is Syria in real trouble now they’ve crossed the GREEN line?

I guess the “line in the sand” schtick got too old and tired and didn’t sound urgent enough anymore. This still sounds pretty damned stupid.

Well, much like this forum, my attitude is this: All I can do is state my opinion. Crazies, Assholes and Jerks will always be there to misinterpret every word to their pleasure or be offended by the slightest thing. I will keep my self-defense to a minimum and will try not to engage those who feel it necessary to add shit to my post in order to justify their outrage\*. I will walk away when my point has been made, even if it is currently being beaten with heavy sticks by those same assholes.

Well, that and I sometimes, for entertainment purposes and my own sense of non-ignorance, will walk into threads here where there are a handful of people attempting to enforce Viewpoint X and deliberately point my nose into the wind. I expect the resistance and the childish name calling and feel no injury at their responses, try as they sometimes might. It isn’t exactly trolling because I’m not deliberately saying wild and outlandish things just to get a rise. I’m saying things to make a point, point out flaws in the rationale, or raise alternative ideas.

There was a [Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal](http://www.smbc-comics.com/index.php?db=comics&id=2939#comic) strip a couple of weeks back that I like for explaining internet arguments.

That and, as a conversation with my sister went once; 😛

Me: This guy says X and it’s pissing me off.
Her: How do you know this person?
Me: He’s just some guy on the internet.
Her: Who?
Me: Some guy on the internet.
Her: Who? :dubious:
Me: Oh. Um, yeah. Nevermind. 🙂

- If you’re (generic you) the kind of person who has to think/say “Well he said X, so I’ll assume X, Y and Z and then attack him for Y and Z”, you’ve got a pretty serious character flaw going there. You may think you’re winning when people walk away from you, but you’ve got it backwards.

I guess the base lesson, which I learned a ways back, is this: Don’t get your ego so firmly entwined in your words and your ideas. If you’re wrong, accept being wrong without being injured by it. If you still believe you’re right and the other party won’t accept it, then accept that they have a right to their own opinion and that you don’t have any cause to feel injured by their ownership of a differing opinion. The way you argue shows your character.

That’s OK professor, I don’t need to sleep. Never mind that you’ve already assigned nine massive chapters to get through, then let’s add a huge multi-part project on top of it. This was all assigned today. The chapters are due Saturday, the project is due Wednesday.

I picked a bad week to start working again I guess… I’m too old to be pulling all-nighters.

(I know, quit griping about it on the Dope and go do your homework!)

Hey, asshole honking in the parking lot outside my open window.

There are these things called CELLPHONES that can be used to call the person you came to pick up or visit, so that they know you are here.

Sadly, if I were to put a couple of arrows into your car, merely as clues, you understand, they would arrest ME.

I was thinking superglue.

Seriously. The only difference between surgical grade and standard is the former has all the sterile processing certifications and purple dye.

And the price of course.

It’s a natural antiseptic so just clean and dry everything and make sure everything is where it’s supposed to be and run a line of glue on it. Only if it’s a neat tear of course. If it’s ragged you’ll need some professional care to make it clean.

It’s worked for politics since someone figured out how to draw a circle, too.

Actually, that would probably be a better choice than stitches or staples. I think that I’d probably want a professional to do it, just to make sure that everything is lined up properly.

My girlfriend likes to help out at the local pet supply store on adoption day. We foster puppies every now and then when they need extra help. Adoption day is every Saturday. Every Saturday. The store is full of puppies and kids that come to see them. Anyone who goes to the store knows that. Anyone who lives in the area sees the signs. Often people will bring in their dogs to see if they will get along with a new puppy. The kids of course give all the dogs attention.

So in walks a woman with her dog on a leash. She must be familiar with store since she knows her dog is welcome inside. A kid starts going near her dog and she announces to everyone that her dog reacts violently to children or other dogs. So you decide to bring your dog into a store knowing that it bites children and dogs during the only 4 hours in the week in which the store is overflowing with dogs and children. I know, its probably a bother to come in on Sunday instead to get you doggy treats.

Um - it’s a chain so she knew she could bring her dog in but she’s from out of town so she didn’t know about the adoption crowd? That’s about the best I can do …

Really, it doesn’t matter where she is. If her dog bites, it shouldn’t be out in public without a muzzle. It is not the responsibility of the rest of the world to make sure her dog doesn’t bite them. :smack:

To tell you the truth, the dog looked very calm and unbothered by the chaos inside the store. I have a feeling she was just being a bitch (see what I did there?).
