OK - so what terminology is appropriate to describe the pregnant husband of a male participant? We need a new vocabulary. ---

That’s interesting (that you think it’s “iconic”). I know that Survivor has its stock phrases, and their repetition is sort of a mantra of the show. But honestly when Jeff asked “What do I say when the players come into a challenge?” I had no idea what the exact phrasing was (other than it included “Come on in” - actually I think that’s what I answered to my wife while we were watching the episode). To me there are so many lines that are more important and memorable: “The Tribe has spoken”, “Drop your buffs”, “Let’s get to today’s challenge”, “Once again, immunity is back up for grabs”. (As an aside - I hate the redundancy of the last one… either say “Once again” or “back”) I agree they probably shouldn’t have made a big deal about it, but changing it seems like a complete non-issue to me. ---

Phrases I associate with the show(in no particular order): 1. “Other team. I got nothing for you.” 2. “It’s time for you to go.” 3. “The tribe has spoken.” 4. “Wanna know what you’re playing for?” 5. “Previously on…Survivor!” Phrases I never associated with the show: “Come on in, guys!” ---

Jeff was very quickly named “one-take Probst” when the show was in its early seasons. By repeating the same phrases, he was able to get a ton done in one-take. He memorizes the directions for the challenges so that the live “on set” audio can be used instead of voiced over ADR done later. It…does still happen where the audio wasn’t good enough or he didn’t get it quite perfect, but most of what you hear during challenge explanations was from the “set” as he told it to the players. I heard him talk about how they even fought for that pause after “Previously on…” :pause: “Survivor!”. They were adamant that it was dramatic and a great way to come in each week and CBS wanted it to be quicker. They fought for it and even though it is a small part, it is kind of iconic now. Kind of like that producer who recorded “Previously on LOST” just once and they then used it for almost all the show’s run. ---

Coming in a little late here, but a few of my thoughts on the season premiere: Though I like the increased LGBTQ representation, they could have been a little less in-your-face about it. Seemed a bit like self-congratulatory back-patting. Hopefully in subsequent episodes they’ll just treat everyone like people, which is kind of (or should be, anyway) the whole point. The “prisoner’s dilemma” thing was interesting. But I must not have been paying attention because I assumed the extra vote that the two of them won would be good only at the first TC. However, they can use it all the way up to the final six. That tilts the risk/reward calculation _very_ heavily in favor of taking the risk. I’m surprised that even one of them chose to play it safe. I honestly couldn’t care less whether Jeff says “Guys” or not. But, I agree with others here that there was no need at all to draw attention to the change. Not sure who I’m rooting for yet; I’m still feeling out the players. Early likeabilty points for Evvie and JD, though I don’t think the latter has what it takes to make it to the end. He seems… I don’t know if “naive” is the right word. Unjustifiably Confident, maybe? My early “villain” picks are Brad and Ricard. Shan is trying to cast herself as a villain, but, nah. I really liked that only one tribe won immunity, and hope they continue that for as long as there are three tribes. I was fine with both of the players who got booted. No way either of those two was going very far. Sara was already on the edge of an emotional breakdown, and Abraham had no game. He was so sure he was in total control that he could see no other possible outcomes. Rookie mistake. That should not have been a blindside. All in all, it’s starting to look like a fun season! ---

If “Come On In, Guys” is offensive, why don’t they change “The Tribe has spoke” to “the Team has Spoken” “Tribe” seems like it would be just as offensive to indigenous people as “Guys” is to non male people. ---

What was funny is I counted 5 or six times this episode where “guys” was used to refer to multiple people, including by a woman calling to two other women, “Hey guys.” But sure, it’s an actual problem that needed to be addressed last week. 🙄 ---

I think the producers very much wanted to make a Big Deal out of it. They seem to be working _very_ hard in this season to demonstrate their sensitivity and inclusion etc etc. Jeff looks a bit more aged than I would expect – the long hair doesn’t help. The first 2 off are Abraham and Sarah? How OT! Is there an Isaac who can go next? ---

That “beware” advantage just plain old sucks. Sure, you have to open it, but losing your vote until people at other tribes find their own? That’s rough. And I’m disappointed that Tiff’s insanity somehow won over the other women. It’s like she literally couldn’t understand the conditions that came with the beware advantage, even when Evvie explained them over and over. I’m disappointed Jeff’s amazement that someone can convert fractions to decimals in their own head carried over to another episode. I’m not usually a fan of voting someone out _just_ because they messed up at a challenge. But Tiffany is worthless is practically every way, and annoying as hell to boot. The yellow tribe is doomed.
