> I rewound this hilarious fight at lest 10 times to try and hear what was going on, and I am very sure that Booby Jon screamed “THAT’S WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR!!! THAT’S WHAT I LIKE!!” I have no idea why, even after living in Mississippi for 9 years. But it sure was fun to watch!

Went back and listened to it yesterday, and that’s what it sounded like to these Georgia ears, too. He was not saying “That’s not nice.” He was saying “That’s what I like.”

> In a previous episode (pre-tribal jumble), Danni did use Gary’s real name; she told somebody he was Gary Hogeboom.

Can anyone else confirm this? I don’t remember her ever saying “Hogeboom”. I remember her saying “former NFL Quarterback”, but never his last name or any team he played for. Later, she dropped the bizarre Central Michigan bomb, which doesn’t help answer **Rockle** ’s question: “I’d like to know why she knows him, that’s all. Why’s he worth that space in her brain?”

Based on the information we have, I’m under the impression she was fed the information (and very little information, at that). I’d be willing to change my mind, but I’d have to know the “Why”, and just being a sports nut or a football chick doesn’t cut it.

Even her tight shorts do nothing for me. Fucking a girl like that would be like masturbating with a wet glove.

As for her knowing about Gary Hoge-go-boom, 9th best QB Dallas has had in the last two decades,\* I too think it was a set up. Unless they had some major time together before the actual contest began, I just don’t see her jumping to that conclusion all by her ownsies. But, another scenario popped into my head. What if they were told (as in a rumor slip) that there was a pro sports ringer in the game? Then, she’d have been on the look out for someone that might fit the bill. That, I could see happening.

- he only _played_ two full years there. 84 and 85. Yes, he was there from 80 to 85, but only two of those years as the full time starter. Then he went to Indy and finally Phoenix. Only two of those years did he have any reasonably good performance as QB, 84 in Dallas, 89 in Phoenix. Sure, maybe he was the biggest thing ever to come out of the Chippewas football program, but his NFL career was easy to overlook. No way she juist recognizes him out of the blue.

I agree. Hogeboom is way too obscure for even a sports nut her **of her age** to recognize.

And **NoClueBoy** , she could have only come up with the Central Michigan thing if she had been given very specific information, not just a general hint about a pro sports ringer.

If I were Hogeboom, I’d be pretty pissed that someone with the show had ratted me out and screwed with my “strategy” (such as it is). I might even be looking through the fine print of my contract with Burnett.

**spoke-** I was simply offering another possibility with that part of the post. If you read my footnote to Hogeboom, you’ll see it pretty much confirming that she had to be fed info. No one except his family or an exGF would be able to recognize him as a specific nondescript football player decades removed from his last start.

An obscure fact, sure. A stat that only three people on the planet know, sure.

But personal recognition of him by her? Ha! Even if she did see him on TV as a child, he was usually wearing a helmet (as has been commented on before).

But if a doper knew some obscure fact about [random] **The Rolling Stones** [/random], but didn’t know who the lead singer was, I would find it equally as bizarre.

Well, that’s going a bit far. There are probably thousands of hardcore eighties Cowboy fans that would be able to recognize him, especially after hearing him talk with that distintive mouth full of marbles.

For me, it’s not so much the obscure fact – “you just look like someone who played football at Central Michigan, is all” – as it is that the fact seems utterly and completely without context. I mean, _I_ probably look like someone who went to Central Michigan. Gary looks like someone who could have gone _anywhere_ to college. There were _at least_ 4,000 younger versions of Gary at Syracuse when I was there from 1992-1996. He’s pretty generic looking (although he is very tall). What’s the “someone” all about? If you want to impress people with what you know, why wouldn’t you have more specifics? Or at least _say the name of the person you think you’re talking to (or about)?_ I mean, he’s not Voldemort or anything. You’re _allowed_ to say his name.

BTW … **ronincyberpunk** brought up something I meant to mention earlier. Rafe was smart in giving immunity to Gary, who was probably the only person in Yaxhá who was not a possible bootee. The old Nakúmians were trying to decide between Amy and Brian, and there was no clear agreement shown as to whom the original Yaxhá yahoos were targeting. The only name I didn’t hear mentioned was Gary’s. That seems pretty smart (and spiteful) on Rafe’s part, to me, anyway.

This is what I was trying to say. In case I didn’t make that clear. Which is possible. Because I’ve gone and lost my mind again.

😃
I had overlooked that. Yeah, the post game interviews after the games where he threw all those INTs were marvels of clear communcation.

Uh oh! I just had another little thought thingy go thru my head! Didn’t he try his hand at colour commentary on a regional college level for a few years? That could be the puzzle piece we haven’t even looked at yet. Depending on area and time frame (if at all), that could be an explanation for recognizability. Give it a chance! Let’s try to find out if he had any broadcasting gigs after his NFL career ended.

I don’t understand the Rolling Stones/lead singer example. Is it because she used his college team instead of his pro team to out him?

I took that as a clever way of saying “I know EXACTLY who you are, Hogeboom!!”

It certainly had the desired effect. He admitted he went to Central Michigan. His name is Gary. He looks athletic.

Her interview where she revealed she knew he was Hogeboom (she used his real name) just seemed so matter of fact. Like she assumed everyone else knew who he was (a trait often exhibited by people with too much worthless info). If she was primed by Burnett, which I am not so naive to doubt COULD happen, she is an excellent actress.

And since no reality TV could be an excellent actress, I tend to believe she had the info.

It would not suprise me if Danni knew all on her lonesome. The people on survivor are hand picked. It could be, after choosing Hodgeboom they decided to find somebody who might know of him. Perhaps an interview question was “how much do you know about the Dallas Cowboy’s of the 80’s?”

I dunno. Omarosa keeps insisting she’s human, but she plays an excellent evil alien robot. She has me convinced, anyway. Not that we’re saying much, there.

That’s what I’ve been thinking - it reminds me a bit of the Australia version where they paired up a hunter and a vegetarian on the same team, and then let them ‘find’\* a pig and slaughter it. They knew it would cause fireworks.

- In quotes because there’s some question over whether or not the pig was really a wild one or if it was planted by the producers for the very argument we saw between Michael and Kimmi.
“Let’s eat it!”
“No, it’s a living thing! We should keep it as a pet!”

Well, sort of. She mentioned his _extremely_ obcsure college team, rather than the team his is most often associated with, which happens to be the most familar (American) football team on the planet. And, no offense, but I’m still waiting on a second source for the “Hogeboom” mention. Without it, we haven’t seen any evidence that she knows more than what she mentioned to the tribe - (1)Former NFL Quarterback and (2) he played at Central Michigan.

Now, I could be wrong about the “Hogeboom” mention, and even if I’m not, your theory is certanly possible. We all know that MB uses editing to his advantage, and maybe he cut out Danni’s confessions where she does explain that she knows exactly who he is. But until I see it, I an’t buying it.

**Assuming** that the Central Michigan info wasn’t planted, it could have easily come up during an off-camera conversation while the contestants were getting to know each other. To my way of thinking, :dubious: that’s the only way that Gary’s admitting of going to CM makes any sense. It also has the benefit of allowing the producers to make the contestants look dumber than they really are.

I could be wrong as well. The only quote I could find on the net was from TWOP where she says “I work in sports radio back in Kansas City, and Gary used to be a professional football player, so. He was a quarterback. Quarterbacks, though, aren’t usually as athletic as the rest of the football players, but he’s holding his own.”

That is where I thought she had used the name Hogeboom, so unless she used it in a different confessional, I missed the boat.

It is entirely possible I heard Gary refer to himself in the third person and associate that with Danni.

So a potential mea culpa moment for me.

Yes, I’ve mentioned this before. I’d be willing to bet that the conversation immediately prior to the part that actually aired involved Gary mentioning that he went to Central Michigan. Danni then ambushes him with, “Yeah, you played football at Central Michigan.” I could be wrong, but I bet that’s how it played out.
