Is it just me or is CBS not promoting the new round of Survivor very much? Another co-worker and I were discussing this yesterday and neither of us had seen promos mentioning that the new Survivor starts tonight. If it weren’t for me reading on another website that it starts today, I wouldn’t have known… ---

I’ve known for weeks; I suspect that most of the hard-core fans know as well. The way TV is going these days they aren’t marketing their shows so that you have to watch every episode from the beginning; they have breaks and recaps and Previouslies up the yin-yang, and they expect people to get up to speed pretty quick. Survivor’s been around long enough that once the fans know there’s a new series starting, they’ll start watching, and missing the first episode isn’t that big a deal any more (mpphgh grrphh spoilers…). ---

On our cable, the “TV Guide Channel” has been running a sneak-peak-type thing for a couple of weeks now. There have also been a couple of segments on one of those Entertainment Tonight shows, one of which had the reporter running one of the challenges against some of the Survivor production crew. One nice thing about getting Survivor back is that we’ll be able to watch \*a whole season \* without interruptions for replays/repeats! ---

They’ve been showing promos during CSI, but not as many as usual. I’m at my usual level of apathy for this, no matter what the “twists” are, but I always come back for more, so bring it on! 🙂 ---

_Drat!_ I was coming to start the thread for tonight’s epi, but I’ve been beaten to it. Oh, well. I don’t remember seeing **Lips\_Obsession** from earlier seasons, so welcome aboard! (And if you’ve been here all along, and I’m just a dolt (which wouldn’t surprise me in the least), welcome to the new season, then!) Janu mignt not have been good for much, way back when, but at least she helped create the new twist for this season, so good on her. I’m trying to stay away from spoilers this season, so I have no preconceptions about what’s going on this time. I have to say, it’s pretty refreshing. So far, nobody strikes me as an early favorite, but SuperTom and our Beloved Dolphin Boy set the bar pretty high, and it throws off my guessing game. Still, I’m pretty excited for tonight. This is my favorite part of the entire season, when nobody has annoyed me yet (including Jeffy) and the strategery begins anew. I only wish we were in a “virgin” location and not stupid Panama _again_. It’s hard to get into scenery you’ve seen in eleventy hundred episodes already. My big question: Who or what will replace Howlie as the official mascot/color commentator/heckler this time around? Also … and I should know this, because Mark Burnett totally owns my soul, but … do they _always_ have a Reward Challenge in the very first episode? It’s usually just an Immunity Challenge, right? ---

OK, so I _might_ actually have an early favorite. Cool. Nothing like a brand new Survivor. I got my score sheet out and I am ready to rank them. A little Thursday afternoon reading material though: A website ranks: [The Ten Best Survivors Ever](http://jam.canoe.ca/Television/2006/01/19/1423079.html) [And the Ten Worst](http://jam.canoe.ca/Television/2006/01/17/1421216.html) Go to the links for the full story, but in brief the top ten best are: 10 Andrew- Pearl Islands 9 Ian- Palau 8 Colby- Australia 7 Bobby Jon- Palau/Guatemala 6 Rafe- Guatemala 5 Richard- Federal Prison 4 Steph- Palau/Guatemala 3 Brian- Thailand 2 Boston Rob- Marquesas 1 Tom- Palau 1 & 2 are no-brainers. I don’t agree with the inclusion of Ian, Bobby Jon or Rafe. I don’t know anything about Andrew. I would at the very least downgrade Steph and upgrade Colby. You gotta put Ethan on here. ---

Oh crap, what’s his name. What about the guy who ended up winning after being the only guy remaining with like 6 girls originally against him? He has to be ranked up there to survive a game that clearly drew gender lines. ---
