I loved the smackdown Jeff gave them about their lame “bargaining” for a new flint. He’s definitely no pushover. ---

Val screwed the pooch bad. No reason to claim you have an Idol unless your back is up against the wall and it’s the only way to try and throw votes somewhere else. I don’t blame Rocker for changing his vote (not that it would’ve made a difference) since he really thought she had a HII and didn’t use it. ---

In the last few seasons, there has not been much fretting about making fire. If I ever was to go on Survivor, you can bet that I would be learning how to start fire from magnesium and also my glasses. Didn’t Yau-Man increase the magnification of his eyeglasses by putting a drop of water on the lens? One of howler monkeys pilfering the Magnesium brick makes sense. ---

If one of the tribe members is trying to emulate He-Whom-I-Shall-Not-Name, that tribe member may have stolen it. However, if that were the case, I suspect the editors would have shown us the act or will do so in the next episode. ---

Is _Survivor_ like _Big Brother_ in that they are under constant surveillance by cameras and crew people? It’s quite possible somebody could have swiped the flint while nobody from the production staff was around. It would have been the right combo of nerve and luck to pull off, but it could have happened. My vote is with the monkeys! 🙂 ---

I can see Rocker’s logic here, though. He seriously thinks that she HAD an idol and just plain didn’t play it. If the captain of the boat’s chopping holes in the hull, you don’t tie the anchor to your waist. You swim away as fast as your arms and legs will push you through the water. ---

Not surprised to see Rocker get voted out, but was pleased that he took it well, and even praised them for the good move, and recognized his status as being “voted out with an immunity idol in his pocket” ---

I actually expected a little more self-awareness from Rocker. Didn’t he think beforehand about what he might do if he were outed? A good response might have been something along the lines of “Yeah, I said some dumb things 15 years ago that I regret.” A bad response is threatening to punch people’s teeth out. Also, there seemed to be plenty of clues at TC that a blindside might be coming. I was truly surprised he kept the idol in his pocket. Hubris strikes again! Anyway, I had no real love for John and I don’t mourn him, but I’m not looking forward to Natalie’s reaction when she sees he’s gone. That woman is (hmmm, how to put this politely?) a horrible shrew. ---

The editors had me totally fooled, which was awesome. All episode it was “Yep, we’re totally voting John, lock it down, no question.” Which usually means that someone else is going, and since that someone else happened to be a cute chick I was convinced that Baylor was going home. I think some of those reaction shots were manufactured, and I also think everything shown at TC was convincing that John was safe. One example, the not-Baylor woman saying that she thinks cracks are forming in the guys’ alliance so it may not necessarily be a female going home. Editors cut to a reaction shot of Rocker being shocked. The problem with that reaction shot is John had come up to her personally and told her the plan was to vote out the old guy, meaning that’s exactly what she was supposed to say to convince John that nothing weird was going on. Since the girls votes were going toward the old guy, no need to play his idol. The rest of the guys who were flipping kept stressing that they all felt like “we’re sticking to the plan,” which would only build John’s confidence. ---

I was kind of surprised that Jeff didn’t toss out his usual barb about voting out the hands-down strongest member of their tribe, when they haven’t won any immunity challenges. He’s usually pretty much in favor of the alpha male leading the tribe. ---

Its just plain stupid to vote out a strong player before the merge. this is why “he’s a threat” is a BAD reason to vote a player out before the merge and a great reason afterwards.
