Although one year the idol was the emblem atop the gate in each camp, so the idea isn’t totally new. ---

Probst had tweeted a couple weeks ago that this season’s immunity idol was going to be the rice container top, so I’ve known about it the whole time. I do wonder if everyone will notice it is gone. Good on Survivor for not hiding the idol this year; it is getting tiring watching them all look for it every year. ---

I must have watched a different survivor. You know, the one the producers promised would include a Lisa W. meltdown. Some meltdown huh? Instead, I saw was Roxy expressing a little (well, lot) of butthurt because Angie got a second serving of boobs from Mother Nature, apparently at Roxy’s expense. How many boob comments did she make? I lost count. I was surprised to see that Russ had voted to send the dingbat packing. I had him squarely on her side. I guess her comment about not being able to compete in the challenge due to not drinking enough water got to him. ---

Kind of meh episode, although I agree it’s way better to have the idol in plain sight but not obvious. It eliminates the concept of someone finding the idol with no clues just by looking, and rewards the clue finder significantly. Although, in this instance, it greatly rewarded returning players who knew to look for a clue. Probably not unintentionally. I wanted Angie to go until the Roxy eye-rolling started. Then I was done with her. Keep your composure, make your case, and don’t go overboard. Also, begging out of a task in a challenge is worse than doing it poorly, IMO. And, it appears, also in Russell’s. Although he was completely right that he’s screwed now - he probably realized he had very little choice in the matter. He really needs the idol ASAP. The keeping your composure notion might be important for crazy South American lady too - way too soon for a paranoid freak out like that. Especially since you weren’t even facing TC. ---

First the challenge - they are now seeing why voting out a young relatively strong guy early is a bad thing. Brute pulling strength was the key to that one, Matt had the right idea by just taking over rather than holding himself back to stay even with Roxy. If Russell had been able to deliver on the same plan they wouldn’t have lost so much time. Also set up the sled while it’s empty moron, the whole getting caught up after loading the puzzle pieces was just bad planning. Introverts really don’t do so well with paranoid teammates, it’s going to be rough for Lisa to come back from that start but the longer her team goes without losing the better her chances are. Her performance in the puzzle calling was top notch. Abi-crazy is going to be the first person voted off her tribe because she’s not going to get better she’s going to spiral further out of control. _places bet_ For her the longer before the first tribal council the better my bet looks. ---

I’ve been mourning the loss of 2 challenges since they did the Exile Island thing for two seasons (ick). One reward challenge, one immunity challenge busted up the episodes pretty well, avoiding long stretches of (usually) boring camp life. Not saying she doesn’t speak another language, just saying it sounded like tongues to me. Admittedly, most of my exposure to tongues has been academic (PhD in sociology of religion), not personal (Quakers don’t do tongues), but that’s what it sounded like to me. ---

Roxy was a riot. A train wreck, but a riot. Not drinking enough water before a challenge? Accusing others of working too hard around camp? Wow. The Brazilian chick seems crazy too. I’m excited to see her snap later on. The way she said “I’ll kill you if you screw me over” was said with quite a lot of aggression. ---
