Swamp coolers

I ran a Swamp for 20+ years here in the High Desert. Worked great, but very high maintenance, mostly due to water quality. High alkaline water and poison made replacements of pads and pumps all too frequent. And that meant up on the roof 4 or 5 time a season, not to mention the winterization routine. Plus water line problems… up on the roof another 4 or 5 times extra. But the cooling was great, and could run it at night to maintain what was comfortable. It’s hard to explain… but it was good.

I “upgraded” to AC, but I’m not convinced it’s any better. But a lot less work. But a lot more money.

End Game: if you live in the right area, Swamp Kicks Ass. If you got money for the install and power bill, AC is the way to go.
