“When angry, count four; when very angry, swear.” -Mark Twain, American
Northern Indiana here. I curse and swear, but I never cuss. It’s just not a pretty word.
[sub]Yes, I know. The irony cops are coming to get me. :D[/sub]
Texas here.
I use the words “cuss,” “curse,” and “swear” all interchangeably, though I’m probably someone unusual in that I ever use “curse” in this context. Most people just say “cuss.”
Do you have a word for non-fizzy non-alcoholic drink? Or does fizzy drink include that? Or do you just have no such drinks except things referred to specifically?
Fizzy drink (mainly used by kids and parents) and soft drink both refer to the coke, sprite etc drinks. Other non alcoholic drinks are just called what they are, juice, cordial etc.
Shade: In some parts of the country a fizzy drink is called “soda”. In other parts it is “pop”. Some oldsters call it “soda pop”. Me? I call them by their names: Coke, Dr. Pepper, Mr. Pibb, etc. Root beer is a specific type of soft drink, so I just say “root beer”. Strangely, in some parts of the country (in the South, I think) people call carbonated soft drinks “coke”. An orange soda can be “coke”. Weird, eh? I refer to carbonated beverages as “soft drinks”, myself.
As for non-carbonated soft drinks, I’m not quite sure what you’re asking. Like, is there a name for water or coffee or orange juice? We just call them what they are (as calm kiwi says).
