I’m writing in response to [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=116341) in the Great Debates forum, which seems to be little more than a reprise of another [thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=108310). In that thread I was repeatedly told that I could not be a Jew because I did not accept the conversion process. That is exactly what I wanted to know. How do characterize people who would not allow me to convert just as I am but they do allow me in due to ancestry just as I am? If it is not racism please tell me WTF it is. Well, well, well. I’ve stayed out of GD so far today. I’ve got some actual work to do here, so I’m trying to keep my board surfing to a minimum today—and I’m spending all my time talking about AOTC, which I just saw last night. But if my favorite hog-farmer-hating, Masonic-conspiracy-touting anti-Semite is back for another round, I guess I’ll have to go take a look… ---

Not having seen the aforementioned ‘family tree’, are the religious affiliations of each member marked in? or is the concern that suddenly ‘everybody’ (probably amounting to the person who is making the tree, **SW** his own little self, and anyone else not able to escape), will ‘know’ that **SW** is related to “Uncle Bleepenstein” and therefore **SW** is Jewish? I had two co-workers one with a so-called Jewish last name and another w/ a seemingly Irish one. They were both black, neither Jewish nor Catholic and enjoyed the hell out of the startled looks they got ---
