My roommate and I walk into the grocery store and there is this huge display for “Sweetest Day” consisting of flowers and ballons and the such. Well, we have no idea what it is and how you go about celebrating this new holiday. However, if anyone out there knows anything I would love to be informed, that way I can be prepared for the next time this holiday comes around. Oh by the way today was “Sweetest Day” ---

Everywhere this has taken hold, I’ll bet the card makers, the giftwrap retailers and the florists are dancing with glee. Why on earth do you need another “special” day to celebrate relationships? How about the other 364 days in the year? ---

I’m with the **Wolf** on this one. My parents remember a time when even Mothers’ and Fathers’ Days didn’t exist. Of course, this is a point of which I make much use when I forget to send 'em a card. I admire the Americans for keeping their sanity with all these fake holidays. Here in Australia it’s bad enough; Christmas, Easter, Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day, etc all blend into one another sufficiently that the TV advertising never seems to get out of top gear. Throw in the occasional Halloween, Thanksgiving (not to say that’s manufactured), or Sweetest Day, and we’d be going spare. ---

I don’t even send b-day cards any more… then again, I’m a grouchy old woman. I have been known to dispatch the occasional e-card, and I’ll call my parents on their birthdays, but I ignore pseudo-occasions. Bah!! Sweetest Day, my patootie!! ---
