Star Wars the Old Republic has a way to start guilds before the launch of the game. [See the faq here.](http://www.swtor.com/guilds/faq) Anyone interested in starting a guild or two for SDMB members? Maybe one a Republic one and an Empire one. They can be linked together so that they’re on the same server, even. ---

I’m on the fence of getting this. I’ve never played an MMO game, much less a pay-by-month one, but i REALLY liked KOTOR and KOTOR II. I’m wondering how much of this game is guild-requisite. it looks like you have a small platoon of companion NPC’s… Also, pretty much everyone is going to go for the jedi class right? ---

Yes, the companion characters will greatly reduce any need to group. But there’s sure to be things that a guild will make easier. Like crafting. Plus, it’s fun to play with people you know. They’re trying to make all the classes equally fun and a balanced. A trooper just isn’t a regular soldier; they’re one of the Republic’s elite forces. Likewise for every class. I expect I’ll try every class at some point. ---

That said, you need a real person group to do the heroic/elite quests in a zone, as well as at least one or two people for flashpoints (dungeons). ---

I’m down for this. I’m still not sure which side I will play. If I can have a couple characters, I’ll put one in each SD-guild. Only question left, is what will the name of the guilds be? 😃 ---

I’m going to have to choose between this and WoW, but I definitely want to give it a try. A Doper guild would be sweet. ---

I think at this point each player can only pre-join one guild. And each guild needs at least four players who’ve pre-ordered the game. While we could wait until the game goes live, by organizing now, interested Dopers will all start out on the same server. And we can link the Doper Republic guild with the Doper Empire guild so they’re on the same server. Of course, we could simply pick which a server to be the “SDMB server” and worry about forming guilds later. I;m not going to want to reroll, is all. ---

I’m (probably) not going to pre-order, but I have absolutely no preference as to server or side so I’ll just hook up with wherever the Dope guild ends up being. ---

Hmm how about these guild names? 1920’s Style Death Star Teeming Millions - Crying Out In Ignorance Darth Cecil’s Teeming Millions Rebels Against Ignorance (Ignorance Fighting Rebels) Burning Womprats Hi Darth Opal! Whattya think? There’s a couple that good for either (With slight changes) ---

I’ve pre-ordered…well, my sweetie did it for me when he realized I was interested…so if there’s a pre-req needed to form a guild, count me in. I’m not a meta-gamer, but have enjoyed the guilds I’ve had that have been with friends/cool aquaintances. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. 🙂 ---

Hey, maybe post this in the Doper Guild sticky thread for when we really get going? I know that if people set up a guild ahead of time, then all of them can be on the same server…or somewhat. Great, now I’m scratching my head wondering why we couldn’t be on the same server ANYway, but I don’t know exactly how that works. Anyway, count me in \ whenever one gets going that isn’t too over-the-top ambitious right out of the gate. It’d be fun to explore. \*\*I game. Played SWG. More explorer than achiever, but crafting is often fun…ok that’s a lie, but it’s nice to be able to make stuff right at the get-go, providing the crafting system produces something worthwhile, anyway. ---

Okay, I’ve read up more on the game and combined with my growing weariness of WoW I’m gonna go ahead and pre-order (but not until next week after I get another paycheck). I’m down for some Doper guild action, either side. Not sure which class I want yet. ---

Pre-order complete! Anyone else interested in forming a Doper guild pre-release speak up. I think I’m going to start with a Consular/Inquisitor, depending on which faction I end up on. ---

I’m in. I was going to create the 1920’s Style Death Star guild, just never got around to it. I didn’t know which faction to put it in, because I’m not sure I care which side I’m on to start with. ---

If no one else does it today, I’ll create the guild when I get home. I’m assuming “1920s Style Death Star” would be an Imperial Guild. We’re not committed to anything once it’s created; we can always choose not to have it activated when the game goes live. It will only be ported to a game server if we have 4 people in it who have pre-ordered (although you don’t have to pre-order to sign up for the guild). It would be cool to have a Doper “adversary” Republic guild on the same server, too, but I _think_ you can only sign up for one guild pre-launch, so we would need a total of eigh pre-orders in order to establish two guilds pre-launch.
