I liked this show. It was quirky and fun. But they went wrong with the alternate timeline thing.
We should add “alternate timeline” to “main characters get married” as things that guaranteed to kill a show.

I liked the show for awhile. But around the middle of season three I stopped watching regularly but I would still watch an episode when there wasn’t much else on. A shame.

The lack of body slams and night vision cameras was quite clearly a definite flaw in the show.

They are promising a good ending that satisfies the fans. Also a great Christmas special. But then kaput.

This is a little sad-making, but they’ve had a good run. A lot of better shows got less time than they did. _Firefly_, for example.

They’ve actually already filmed the rest of this season and the Christmas special.
Don’t get me wrong I’m really sad it’s cancelled but damnit we better get our episodes!

I was also sad to hear this, as I love Eureka. 5 seasons is a decent run, about 60 episodes and 2 Christmas specials, if my count is right. Season 6 was already supposed to be truncated when the deal fell through, according to the article I read. More out of work actors in Vancouver, I guess.
And while I will share my dislike of every _Ghosts-are-real_ type show, while not a genre fit, WWE Smackdown has been very good at getting eyeballs to SyFy so that they can advertise the other shows on the network. And with up to 168 hours of programming to fill during the week, I really never understood the cry over giving 2 hours to a consistent money-maker (I guess the same argument could be made about the ghost shows, but I think they are collectively more than 2 hours per week). Unless no one wants SyFy to make money? I don’t think NBC Universal is going to use SyFy as a loss leader.

I don’t think anyone would have any objection to a, yanno, _science fiction_ money-maker.
It’s just a little ridiculous that their biggest draw is something that’s completely and totally unrelated to the ostensible genre the channel claims (or claimed) to target.

The show is getting the best ratings it’s ever gotten, and they’re actually going up with each episode. The whispers out there - including a cryptic twitter from Executive Producer Amy Berg - seem to indicate that the cancellation was a financial decision made NOT by Syfy, who apparently wanted to continue the show, but by parent company Comcast for financial reasons.
The show’s hit the point where various contracts are up for renegotiation and increases and they don’t want to pay out. ☹
I haven’t been as happy with recent seasons as I was with season 1 and 2. The loss of Nathan Stark (Ed Quinn) and the great chemistry he had with the rest of the cast really hurt the show, I think. There’s been a lot of character deterioration lately too, and a certain ‘safeness’ to the writing - very little willingness to take risks, show real danger, and have real consequences happen to characters. The timeline thing was clever, but what did it really change? When you come right down to it, almost nothing except Henry’s happy and married now and Kevin is now a generic boring teenager - again really really safe and happy-happy.
For all that, this is still a great show. I’m still watching and I’ll watch til it’s done. But I miss the days when they could vaporize a pizza boy because Carter’s house was having separation anxiety, dagnabbit!
