Symbolism in Children of Men *spoilers*

I’ve stated this in some other Children of Men threads:

Every single person who even touches a gun, turns out to be evil (and as such, dies.)

I don’t know if that’s symbolism or what, but it really cheeses me off.

You’re in a fricking warzone (I speak of course, of the time in the ghetto, just after the baby is born). If there’s any point in your life when you the odds of you needing a gun to survive are high, this is one of those times. Just pick one up and put it in your pocket. You may need it.

Interesting. This puts me in mind of two other apocalyptic films where the last hope for humanity is a black woman: The Omega Man and 28 Days Later.

(Well OK, there’s also a white girl in the last one.)

People feel that *their own * children are special. Not children in general. In fact, other peoples kids are usually a pain. And those ads with babies? Schmaltzy and insincere. But in this flick, you get to see how people reacted to a birth that actually was miraculous instead of being a mere expression.
