[President Bashar al-Assad announces he will run for re-election in June.](http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/04/28/us-syria-crisis-assad-idUSBREA3R0LH20140428) I understand Bashar al-Assad is favored to win, but some pundits are confident that Bashar al-Assad will hand him a big surprise. ---

Assad hasn’t felt as secure in a long time. He’s bound to win the, er, election and he’s winning the civil war, thanks to Putin. (Oh, and maybe he should send a thank-you card to Obama too.) ---

I hear it’s a tight race between Bashar al-Assad, Bashar al-Assad, and Bashar al-Assad. But the winner will likely get 90% + of the vote. This is going to be a real nail-biter to watch on election night!!! ---
