I like watches and I have three watches with the day of the week in the language of the country I visited. One in French, one Italian, and one is a Seiko Kinetic in Arabic. Nowadays with electronic and smartwatches, mechanical watches with the day of the week are getting harder to find especially at reasonable prices.

The stick to move his mouth should have been through the bullet hole to make it worth the $15.

In Hawaii I found a Tiki Idol at a construction site that brought bad luck on my family. It took two more episodes before that was finally resolved.

I recently saw a similar shirt, but it was in black and with the imagery and font of an actual metal band tour shirt. Much funnier.

I’m not sure what category this fits in (both tacky and treasured) But years ago (late 80’s) when my dad had a business trip to Japan, he brought home a can of pocari sweat.

It just occurred to me… Where does a snake’s neck start or end? There is probably a real life answer to this, and if I’ll get it anywhere, it’s The Dope.

> Let’s stipulate that a lifesize cutout, such that the tourist can put their face in the hole and have somebody take a picture of them as some character, counts as a souvenir, or at least the photo does.
>
> The tackiest I’ve seen was at the Andersonville prison Civil War historic site in Georgia. It allowed tourists to pose as prisoners of war.

They have one at the Old Montana Prison with a guard and inmate. If you thought about the way the prisoners were treated, the souvenir photo might not be quite so amusing.

On a lighter note, there’s a whole collection of photo stand-ins at [Connie’s Photo Park](https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/connies-photo-park) in Madrid, New Mexico. My favorite allowed you to be a member of Led Zeppelin standing in front of their tour jet.

Trivia tidbit: the first photo stand-ins (_aka_ “comic foregrounds”) were created by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge, who is also responsible for one of the greatest tacky painting memes of all time, [Dogs Playing Poker](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogs_Playing_Poker).

I totally did not know that. But on consideration, it sure sounds of a piece.

If you now told me he also invented airbrush-on-velvet painting as well, well … he’d be the Trifecta of tacky. And a true American Hero
🙂

Jeebus and Elvis on velvet are true American art. Trailer trash art, but that explains a lot about 'Murricah.

Not specifically what the OP asked for because I was not personally connected to this “souvenir”.

Back in the eighties I was working in downstate NY. Myself and about four other friends from work decided to go down to New York City on our day off. I had visited the city on a few occasions before and one of the guys was originally from NYC but everyone else was from other parts of the state and this was their first trip to the Big City.

We went around and did various tourist things. Then somebody saw a sign pointing to Times Square and said he wanted to go see it. This was back before Time Square was cleaned up and turned into a family friendly tourist attraction. This was still the old Times Square where the main businesses were selling sex and drugs.

So I said “Okay, we can go through Times Square so you can see it. But don’t go in any place. Don’t talk to anybody. And keep moving.” I led the way and we passed through the area with no apparent problems. Or so I thought.

A couple of days later I saw one of my friends at work. And he told me that somebody had offered to sell him a five dollar bag of crack. Which he said he had thought about buying because he figured it would have made a “cool souvenir”.
