As long as I can get a Taco on the cheap they can call anything they like.
I would have guessed that the trademark, if any, would be held by Ortega, and that it primarily referred to families making tacos at home.
Before I ever heard it used by restaurants as a weekly promotion, Taco Tuesday was a school menu thing.
Wednesday is Prince Spaghetti Day!
The usual Wisconsin supper club specials are:
Friday Fish Fry
Prime Rib Saturday
Nowadays it’s Softshell Saturday, at least locally.
Anthony! Anthony!
I can’t help but hear this in the voice of Bane from the Nolan Batman movie, “I bring back to you, the people, Taco Tuesday.”
When I was a kid there was some local eatery that had Fry-a-Fish Friday.
Note, they have restaurants in the Midwest, but they’re one of Wyoming’s few cultural contributions, let them take credit.
Somehow that makes sense.
One of Wyoming’s few cultural contributions is Mexican food.
In possibly related news, Taco Bell has started labeling their in-store bathrooms as Taco Johns.
Me, for one, because I remember when they trademarked the phrase. We all had a good laugh, but immediately agreed that their tacos sucked. Taco John’s is a place to go when there’s nothing else. The phrase became huge and apparently nobody else remembered the trademark. Taco Bell is doing this for publicity. And their tacos suck amost as much as Taco John’s.
We have at least one Taco John’s here in Arkansas, but it’s a little over an hour from me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an ad for Taco John’s or eaten at one. I don’t remember when I first started seeing people say Taco Tuesday, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen local restaurants here use it. I think I’ve even seen it on t-shirts.
Fiesta Friday! Salsa Saturday!
I saw that a Taco John’s is coming to our area so I looked up their menu.
The offerings look more appetizing than those of Taco Bell, but not by much. There is something called
Original Potato Olés® which for some reason Taco Bell is not trying to “liberate”.
I would rather Taco Bell put more effort into returning chili cheese burritos to the people. Those babies were amazing! I’ve often said I would commit crimes to have them back. I mean, not like murder or anything like that. Maybe a bit of patent infringement or smuggling exotic animals.
There’s literally an entire branded line of Mexican food dishes called “Taco Tuesday” I see at Wal-Mart that I have no idea how they get around trademark unless the trademark only applies specifically to food not accessories.
Also Del Taco (a California chain that’s a slightly higher quality taco bell) has a Taco Tuesday promotion but it’s called Tuesday Taco Night which you would think wouldn’t fly by just reversing the words and I’m fairly certain Del Taco has more restaurants than Taco John’s and still hasn’t been sued yet.
Brings up a good question maybe I missed. Has Taco John’s been going around suing other restaurants that have used the term?
