In my area, especially since COVID, many restaurants, bars, and breweries are no longer open on Mondays.
Taco Tuesday was originally two tacos for 99 cents on Tuesday. Just as the Softshell Sunday I mentioned upthread was two softshell tacos for $1.29. So it’s not just that they were selling tacos on Tuesday like they do any other day. Tacos are on sale on Tuesdays. It’s a promotion to get people in the door.
Stan Kelly has put this controversy into stunning perspective.
I looked at their location map, and it seems that the eastern two thirds of the U.S. and the entire west coast is Taco John’s free. Taco John’s | Find a Location (tacojohns.com)
They aren’t missing much by not having a Taco John’s. Radio DJ’s are still going to talk about Taco Tuesday. It’s just Taco Hell that can’t call it that. Nothing is stopping them from advertising Tuesday Taco deals however.
Are you sure you’re interpreting that map correctly? I can’t get it to show all locations at once. I have to give a location, and it only shows the Taco Johns near-ish to that location.
I stand corrected. Apparently it had autofilled my location and I just didn’t notice it.
Everyone is leaving out the other major player in this case, Gregory’s Bar.
Let the People Rejoyce! The War Is Over!!
Didn’t used to be. Arizona had two, one in Phoenix and one in Mesa. I rejoiced! Then they closed. mega bummer, man.
I figured it was because of all the Wis ex-pats out here. We have Cousin’s Subs, which AFAIK is midwest based, too.
People can like what they like. Everyone has their own personal taste.
But you are demonstrably wrong! Potato Oles are a gift from the gods,
They aren’t the sort of gods who expect gifts to be repaid in blood, are they?
Reading that article, it sounds like Taco John’s decided to cede the trademark, as it was going to just be too costly for them to defend, against a competitor with far deeper pockets.
Nope. Just dollars. ![]()
Yeah, I don’t see anything to rejoice about, other than the knowledge that I will never spend another dime at Taco Bell. (Not that I ever did much anyway…)
I hereby declare that any time I see any Taco Bell Taco Tuesday ads or promotions, I will proceed immediately to Taco John’s…
LeBron James should be proud of siding with a giant chain against a small restaurant in New Jersey.

They are repayed in in grease that is wrung out of the potato oles. In my experience, anyway.
LeBron James should be proud of siding with a giant chain against a small restaurant in New Jersey.
Taco Johns is a Midwest chain. The small restaurant in New Jersey kept their trademark in NJ.
The chain isn’t in NJ true, but it’s in Wyoming, which is decidedly not the Midwest.
Yaay for deep-pocket corporate bullying! All the justice you can afford!
