Saving oneself for marriage is not the norm in America today. I don’t think a reasonable person would disagree with that. You feel judged by people who choose to remain celibate until marriage. That’s a shame. But you should flip the coin over and look at the other side. All kinds of people choose to remain celibate until marriage. Society judges them for their choices a hell of a lot more harshly than it judges you for yours. Saving oneself for marriage is, according to society, _fanatical_, _subversive_, and **featherlou** even used the word _unnatural_. Celibacy until marriage is not a choice I would make for myself. However, when someone publicly states their intention to abstain from sex until marriage, I always have kind of a “Good for you” reaction. If I had seen more people making that choice when I was a kid, I would have realized that sex was _optional_, not _mandatory_. I think it would have saved me some trauma and heartache. ---

I agree with the OP–sanctimoniousness is never attractive. On the other hand, WTF is the problem with people who remain virgins after they are sexually mature (I’m looking at you here **featherlou**? Are you honestly suggesting that people have to boink once the plumbing has developed?! Come on–that’s just silly. Let people boink whenever they want to/feel ready for it. It’s really not for us to judge others’ sexual practices unless they’re being unhealthy about it. ---

Seriously, though, I also get annoyed by the notion that there’s anything virtuous about virginity, especially when many of those “virgins” are really just “Lewinsky” virgins.
