UN runs bakeries that are managed and staffed by women in Kabul the Afghan capital. They sell bread at subsidized prices. [The Taleban have ordered them to close down.](http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/south_asia/newsid_882000/882587.stm) How do they support these actions morally? I know not all Muslims share the beliefs that the Taleban is using to conduct this war on women; I worked with a woman who covered her hair and was a devout Muslim. What is the difference that drives the Taleban to demand that women not work outside the home? Does anyone here thing they are right? If so why? ---

They don’t even allow widows to work! It’s one thing to require women with male relatives to be indoors or with them at all times, and not to work; I heartily disagree, and think it’s a human rights violation. But when there’s a widow with children, and she’s not allowed to work or even leave the apartment, that’s a _death sentence_, and nothing less. Ironically, many of the widows became so when their husbands were killed in the war waged by the Taleban…
