Talentless people riding on a family member's fame.

Jeje…I loved that series! Yes, so far as I know his dad was that Valdéz

Another vote for George W. Bush.

I dare say that if his last name were not Bush, he’d be somewhere trying hard to remember which of the icons on the cash register was for the Big Mac, and which was for the fries.
:wally

In all fairness, Tori and her dad have both asserted that she auditioned for the show under a different name and was cast under the premise that she was someone else; i.e., not a Spelling. But while we’re on the Spellings, Tori’s younger brother Aaron, appeared on several episodes of 90201 as Steven Sanders’s younger brother Ryan.

Victoria Gotti… well, it may not necessarily be the coattails of fame she is riding on…

decides to lay low for awhile

There are at least 3 Cusacks working, and all they can all act.

“I mentioned Jackie Stallone and LaToya Jackson earlier, because they’re perfect examples of surprisingly famous “celebrities” who’ve NEVER had hit songs or popular movies or successful books of their own…”

To be fair to Jackie Stallone, she was well-known in astrology circles for her very good book on sun sign deacons.

Nick Cage has done a fair number of good movies in the past 21 years. So I wouldn’t put him on this list (said list being old enough to be of drinking age). Matchstick men, National Treasure, Adaptation come to mind.

Nicholas Cage makes more bad movies than almost any other actor and more good movies than almost any other actor. It’s quite an achievment.

All of the Kardashians. I still don’t understand why they’re famous. Yes, some would say they’re good looking. And yes, I know sex sells. But there’s millions of good looking people, and many people who have appeared in porn. How many of them have achieved the distinction of “famous for being famous” that Kim achieved, and then “famous for being related to someone who is famous for being famous” that the rest of the clan achieved?

Was this thread brought back from the dead because nepo babies were a recent internet focus for hate? I will say it was refreshing to see an interview with Jeff Bridges where he said something like, “I basically got in because of nepotism.” It’d be nice if more celebrities would admit that and maybe tack on a, “But I hope I’ve done enough good work for people to think I deserve to be here.”

RFK Jr. As far as I or most people can tell, the guy’s a moron.

He has a talent for making money off groundless lawsuits and credulous ninnies.

So did I, for about six months in the 60’s. Later in life I understood that what I had liked was the Wrecking Crew behind heavily enhanced, amateurish teenage vocals. Although Billy Hinsche did go on to a genuine career in music.

I hate to mention him because I understand he’s one of the nicest people in the world, but the DD&B phenom also applies to Gary Lewis. The Wrecking Crew and heavy studio enhancement of the vocals. In the case of This Diamond Ring GL’s lead vocal was beefed up with overdubs by Wrecking Crew singer Ron Hicklin.

Gotta disagree with this one although it’s one of my very favorite films. IMO it’s the single great performance of Ryan O’Neal’s career, but Tatum’s delightful performance was the result of Director Bogdanovich’s exhaustive coaching and manipulation.

My other entries for the thread:
Aline Crumb (R. Crumb’s late wife)
and of course…
Yoko Ono. (How much of a reputation/career she had before latching on to John has been greatly exaggerated,IMO.

So it might be true, the internet is forever…

Anyway, you like what you like and is everything but one work by any particular performer/artist is trash, but tou like that one work, well, enjoy!

I like Shakira, too.

I’ve long been a fan of Van Morrison. Years ago his daughter Shana Morrison was touring and played at my buddy’s bar. I got to see her and then hang out with her after the show.

As a stand alone act, she wasn’t bad, but she did not shine like her dad. She was an extremely nice person to talk to, but it felt awkward because I was trying not to gush about Van.

Dean Cain’s stepfather was director Cameron Cain and Dean’s first film roles were in his father’s films.

I’m on the fence about whether he belongs on this list–his acting was NOT the best but he did charisma and screen presence when he played Superman.

This thread reinforces that if you’re born into wealth you get the life of your choosing. If you’re born into poverty, them’s the breaks - no one cares. For the most part at least.
Where would Donald T. be if not for his inheritance. Doubtless still a crook, but likely in jail for shoplifting at a Dollarama.

But if you are born into poverty, you can still get the life of your choosing, it just may take longer, require demonstration of your worth, kicking in doors instead of having them opened for you. There are numerous examples of self made success stories.

The same Liza Minnelli who has an EGOT? (Yes, one of them is honorary, but only 24 people have won all four awards in any form.) The same Liza Minnelli who had a song written for her by one of Broadway’s top composing times so people would spell her name correctly?

Just to note that this thread was recently resurrected; the OP was originally posted 21 years ago, and that poster hasn’t been seen here in three years.
