Talk to me about using soft paws for cats, please

We are both in full agreement that the only way to “train” a cat is to be consistent and be on the same page with each other. We haven’t had to bandage hubs in over a day, so it looks like the “Yell NO and dump kitty” plan is working again. It seems to be working faster than it does with adult strays, so that’s a very good thing!

@CookingWithGas darn about the welts. We thought we were prepared for all the kitten craziness and totally forgot about hub’s paper skin. George hasn’t ever left a mark on me, not even when he runs over me so the problem really isn’t George.

BTW, I bought hubs some long-sleeved micro-fiber summer shirts and getting blood out of them is a breeze. Toss a little peroxide at the stain, then rinse with cold water, I highly recommend them for anyone who is a bleeder.

Thanks for the tip. I’m also a bruiser, nothing to be done about that.

This is a good idea in general, even if you aren’t going to use the caps.

Make a point of touching his paws and feet, gently, to get him accustomed to having them touched. Do it while he’s relaxed and calm, so as to not suggest your hands are toys. This will make it so much easier to cut his nails for the entirety of his adult life. You won’t get this opportunity again; past a certain age if you haven’t done this, he’ll likely hate it forever.
