Tansuitgate: can someone explain the issue?

Watch that Daily Show video linked upthread. People were taking the suit, the coffee salute, and the foot on the desk scandals very seriously. (granted, they already hated Obama because he was black, so they didn’t “change their opinion of him.”)

The Daily Show could not even put together a misleading video about the criticism, just a bunch of CNN hosts mentioning it.

It was a stupid attempt to smear the President, after a while it backfired, and your pathetic attempt to rewrite that attempt as a “joke” isn’t going to work. Face it-your side fucked up with that one.

Starts about :55

He says “He could have worn whatever he wanted”, the lady is trying to steer him into criticizing the suit and he keeps going back to Obama not talking about Syria directly.
One republican mildly criticized the suit while criticizing the substance of Obama’s Syria policy. No other republican said anything, conservative media did not care. It is just a microcosm of how the press covered for Obama.

Rewriting stuff that is right in front of us-Wow.
Are you happy with that shovel of yours, or would you like a bigger one?

Not in this clip he didn’t. The whole thing is worth watching, but at 12:18 or so Rep. King says wearing a light suit is indefensible. Lots of outrage from Fox too.

This from a guy who can’t be bothered to wear a tie.

The fucking suit is BEIGE, and looks perfectly fine.

Remember when Kelly Anne Conway was squatting on the Oval Office sofa, with her shoes on, tweeting on her phone during some meeting? I don’t remember the right foaming at the mouth over that.

I had to laugh at the segment of that Daily Show clip comparing manly shirtless Putin on a horse compared to that sissy Obama and his silly bike helmet. Can you imagine the outrage if Obama would have been photographed shirtless in public? Basically it didn’t matter what he did, he was fair game for trashing because he was Obama.

This was deceptively edited to make it appear like he said the suit was indefensible. The indefensible part referred to is the Obama’s Syria policy not the tan suit.

If there was outrage about the tan suit, why would they have to edit it in a dishonest way?
There was no outrage, one republican criticized it in the context of saying the press conference announcing the Syria policy was not serious. That is why no one has been able to reproduce any other evidence.

Why don’t you provide a link to the supposed “honest” edit? Or better yet, put on welders goggles and sound cancelling headphones, sit in a dark room, and just say “Nuh Uh! It didn’t happen!” over and over again.

I agree with Czarcasm. Show the “honest” version. Then explain why he was trying to defend his outrage at the tan suit black man in The White House. Remember the whole video would never have happened if he hadn’t already flapped his gums.

This is what he said "“For him to walk out — I’m not trying to be trivial here — in a light suit, light tan suit, saying that first he wants to talk about what most Americans care about the revision of second quarter numbers on the economy, This is a week after Jim Foley was beheaded and he’s trying to act like real Americans care about the economy, not about ISIS and not about terrorism. And then he goes on to say he has no strategy.
"What this showed was, you know there’s always a few issues you’re not overly familiar with, and you can find yourself saying the wrong thing or saying it in the wrong way,“That’s the way it struck me.”

"Foreign policy is not a major issue to him. It’s something he has to talk about, he’s not crazy about it, and he’d much rather talk about some social engineering or healthcare or whatever,"For a guy that’s so articulate, he does not know how to express himself on this issue.

“It was just a terrible performance by a commander-in-chief.”

The other problem is that the world is watching to see what the United States is going to do,

“Forget that our allies are watching, forget that the American people are watching. ISIS is watching,”

“If you were the head of ISIS, if you were Baghdadi, or if you were any of the ISIS, anyone in the ISIS leadership, would you come away from yesterday afraid of the United States?” “Would you be afraid that the United States is going to use all its power to crush ISIS?”

"Or would you think, there’s a person who’s going to go out and do a few fundraisers over the Labor Day weekend?

“We are the strongest nation in the world. If we use our power correctly, we can stamp out ISIS, we can stop Islamic terrorism.”

ISIS had just beheaded an American journalist and was threatening to behead another one. Obama gave a press conference where he said that most Americans did not care about Syria and he had no plan. That is what King was upset about.

Then why did he bother to mention the tan suit at all? Notice he said he wasn’t being trivial. Seems he felt it was just as important as the beheading of a journalist.

EVEN IF one accepts your argument that the “tan suit controversy” was overblown, what about all of the other silly objections to what Obama said and did? Like, for example, the comparison of Obama on a bicycle wearing a bicycle helmet to Vladimir Putin, shirtless and killing some animal someplace. And I think someone, once, asked a couple of questions about where Obama was born.

His objection was that Obama was not taking ISIS seriously, he mentioned the tan suit because he thought it looked like he was on his way to a fundraising party. His objection as not to the tan suit but to the perception that ISIS was not a serious concern.
He said that Obama was not taking ISIS seriously because a week after an american was beheaded, at the press conference he said 1. most americans would care more about the economy numbers being revised, 2 he said his administration did not have a plan for ISIS. 3. the way he was dressed looked like he was going to a party.
Obviously he should not have mentioned anything about the suit because it is a stupid point, but he was not upset about the suit per se, and he was the only Republican who ever mentioned the suit.
It was not a scandal and no one treated it as a scandal.

Mitch McConnell, in the Senate chamber while addressing police reform.
What color suit is he wearing?
Why was there no outrage? Police reform is a pretty serious matter though it appears that McConnell doesn’t think so.

Why are you so upset at McConnell because of his suit? Obviously you hate him and can’t find anything of substance to complain about so liberals go crazy at McConnell because of his suit.
