I’d say they’re overcompensating, except I’m not sure anyone on the Race would be able to pronounce it. Because, seriously, Team Gonad’s little moment and the sheer number of ways to mangle “Palermo” were the main things that stood out to me in this episode. Oh, and hoping that Dave and Lori manage to sleep for 12 hours solid and beat that killer fatigue that’s looming.

Geez, have we lost four teams already?

Once again, Hippy proves themselves in the top echelon of this race, with Gonad not far behind. Barring some unforeseen disaster, the final will be these two teams, with whoever else is left bringing up the rear. Maybe that’s why I’m a little bored this season. If only they hated each other or something, but they’re all four running a gentlemen’s race, at least as far as how they treat each other… _YAWN_

The teams other than Hippy that I really like this season just don’t seem to have the stuff: Wanda and Desiree, Danielle and Dani… and Ray and Yolanda will soon be out of seventh places to finish in as well.

The second tier at the moment is Mojo and the Geeks. Mojo is a very uneven team, with decent finishes alternating with middling performance. Geeks have placed solidly in the middle, but they need to do better, and KF is already settling in. I don’t predict great things. Plus, them combined with my wife’s affection for Lisa Loeb’s reality show, #1 Single, there’s a little too much nerd love on my screen lately.

The third tier, with wildly uneven results, are Team Drill and Team Putter. I don’t think either of them are going to be in the last few episodes.

Next Week: Non-elim?

We have a TAR First tonight…the Yielded team was ACTUALLY ELIMINATED on this leg!!! (But now, who are Team Cassanova gonna mack on? Fran & Lori?)

Loved that impromptu wheelchair race at the airport…

BJ & Tyler + Bowling Mom t-shirts = God…freakin…AWESOME!!!
And what an amazing leg for them! GO HIPPIES!!!

So, I did stay up last night to watch, but I had Internet problems. Good thing I took notes, eh? First, my usual useless random comments:

[ul]
[li]I am _so over_ both Erik & Jeremy and the Hippies. They’re always “on” all the time, and if I was another Team on this Race, by this point I would have _choked them all_. Screw the million dollars – the satisfaction of wringing the scrawny little necks of some tools who _desperately_ need it would be worth it. Stop trying to be charming and _raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!_[/li][li]I honestly don’t think even _Michelle_ likes Lake very much. Every time she talks to him, it sounds like she’s seething at him. He’s another one who needs to have his parachute “accidentally” replaced by a knapsack. I hope every single one of this patients is watching the show, and hope not a single one of them goes back to his office. I wouldn’t want that man anywhere near my head.[/li][li]This was a great leg for Fran & Barry. I still don’t like them a whole lot, but they got to do what they’re good at: reading maps and working airports. They did _exactly_ the right thing by asking for an earlier connection. Double bonus points for torquing Lake. But I think I’ve decided that I don’t want them to win. Barry seems OK, but I _can’t stand_ Fran. She is not nice, I don’t think. [/li][li]Dave & Lori had a tough night, but I actually think it’s going to be good for them in the long run that they got it out of the way here. I think Killer Fatigue might be setting in – they did run a helluva leg between Moscow and Munich – but I also think that they’re aware of what’s happening, and they want to do what they can to fix it. Mostly because they’re having fun on the Race, and they want to keep racing.[/li][/ul]
And now some questions that I had while watching:
[ul]
[li]Does anybody else think that Eric & Jeremy are just trying to be ironic when they make all these references to girls and hotties and babies and _blahblahblah?_ I mean, they _are_ from Miami – maybe all their friends already _know_ they’re gay, and they’re just trying to “pass,” and the joke is on all of us. (It isn’t funny.)[/li][li]Did Eric & Jeremy, who are _reportedly_ over the age of 11, _just use the word “hickeys” in a conversation with a grown adult woman?_ No wonder people hate Americans.[/li][li]_Wheelchair racing?_ Could these people be any more obnoxious without steroids?[/li][li]What _planet_ is Lake from, where “sumbitches” [sic] is not a bad word, but “dammit” is?[/li][li]Do BJ & Tyler realize that the Bowling Moms are gonna kick their asses when they get back to the States?[/li][/ul]
Lake & Michelle just made it onto the shitlist of every team except Ray & Yolanda for getting Dani & Danielle booted (but since Ray & Yolanda don’t like L&M anyway, it’s pretty much a wash for them). I suspect that, although the Pinks won’t be there to see it, payback _will_ be a bitch, and retribution will be swift. If we’re lucky.

Oh, and I thought the Statue Roadblock was just the right kind of wicked for this show.

Jeez, no kidding. I think only Team Hippy and Team Nerd pronounced it correctly.
We got Palomino, Palamo, Palmerio, and a couple others.

And just when Team Hippy’s ‘humor’ is wearing thin, they win me back with the Bowling Moms shirts. 😃

Having two extra pieces for the statue was just mean. Lori was trying so hard, and wasn’t going to give up. She wanted those pieces to _fit_, dammit!

I’ll be expecting a broken statue and some hair foofing and and a wheelchair race at the nexy Boston DopeFest.

I hate Lake with the white-hot passion of a _million_ burning suns. Every time he opens his mouth, I want to see Michelle sock him one.

On the other hand, I kinda dig Fran and Barry. They were catty this week. Good for them.

I definitely think the Frat Boys are overcompensating. I must have said that word about fifteen times last night. I think they need to lay off the Casanova vibe, but I still like them. And the Hippies. They’re _enjoying_ themselves, and they’re honestly _nice_ to their fellow racers, even when there’s no need to be. These two teams know they’re the front runners, and they’re content to enjoy each other’s company at the front of the pack until the time comes to turn on each other. I don’t recall ever seeing teams who are so far ahead of the others in skill get along this well before.

How in the name of all that’s holy can somebody not pronounce Palermo? Surely Joseph has seen _The Godfather_.

Poor Lori. As soon as I heard Phil say there were two extra pieces for every statue, I knew that would be where her difficulty would lie. That would have driven me batshit, too. That was just _mean_.

I liked when MoJo were trying to buy tickets to “Pale-me-ro” or “Palmereo” or “Palamino” and the airline guy had a “what the hell?” look on his face. I also liked how Airline Guy carefully enunciated Palermo.

Just when the Hippies verge on bugging me entirely, they pull out the Bowling Moms t-shirts. That’s the kind of subtle humor they should be exhibiting, not the “wacky” stuff they’ve been doing. Still, they’re good racers and I’d rather see them win than the Gonads.

Fran & Barry missed the clue box, again? I wonder if Gretchen (it was her, right) is watching. I’m picturing her cackling with glee. “I’m vindicated! Vindicated!”

Have they dispensed with the 6 roadblock rule this season? I don’t remember Phil mentioning it. I hope not, because I’d like to see Michelle actually do something.

Dave and Lori were so cute on the mat when they were crying, not because of their placement, but because of the way they spoke to each other during the roadblock. Its so refreshing to see a team that genuinely likes each other and are able to have fun on the race. Let’s hope they get a good nights sleep.

Good-bye Double D. You’ve made my life easier by not having to try to figure out which is which.

CBS has a good amazing race recap, for whoever requested it. That 5 minutes wasn’t enough for ya’??

The Pinks pronounced Palermo correctly, I was dumbfounded. It is beautiful there, my grandparents are from there. But then, so is most of Italy. Is it really that hard to pronounce? There’s even a pizza brand called Palermo’s fer crissakes!

I don’t think there’ll be much payback for yielding/booting the Pinks. Just one team less for the rest of them. Lucky for them the Pinks did get the boot.

Michelle did the diving/underwater thing in Russia, not Lake. For a second there I thought it would be Lake/Mich (oops, I almost typed Lake Michigan) & the Pinks battling it for last place and I was so excited.

I like the hippies goofing, and I think the vast majority of people will. Everyone in this world is so bland going about real life, when a couple characters like them come into your life for directions or something it’s gotta put a smile on your face, unless you’re really in a bad mood. I loved how it sounded when the horny boys said “Man, we gotta beat those hippies.”

You gotta figure Ray/Yo & the old couple will be the next to go, they just aren’t as good as the rest. And it looks like Monica has a bad day hauling fish around a Sicilian fish market. I can’t wait.

Heh. Yeah. I love when people on this show say “This is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me!” Lucky, lucky people…the worst thing that’s ever happened to you is a minor inconvenience in the middle of a trip around the world.

Monica has a really freaky on/off switch for her dysfunctions. Most of the time she seems so even-keeled and pleasant but it’s like any tiny malfunction in her ideal plan is cause for a tantrum. Poor Joseph…

I’m sure we remember Monica’s near break-down over being second in line at the airline counter in Ep 1 or 2. That was quite the foreshadowing of things to come, methinks. She’s perfectly fine and functional when things are going along swimmingly, but you throw the tiniest monkey wrench in her plans, and she completely loses it (and it looks like Joseph isn’t fond of her fits). Should be fun to watch! Besides, if a fish market in Sicily is bad, I’d hate to see her on a train in India.

It was too good to be true – Tivo et al lied to me, and at 7:00, my CBS affiliate was showing “Eye on the Bay Area” and Geraldo. Dammit. So I’m as sleep-deprived as everyone else here.

I was so happy that Team Nerd didn’t completely melt down at the statues, and managed to finally consider that there might be extra pieces. An interesting little indicator of somebody’s psychological makeup: most teams said “huh. extra pieces” – Lori was convinced that they \*had \* to fit somewhere. Deeply meaningful, I’m sure.
