I generally advise picking the design and sitting on that because I know so many people who got what they wanted at the time and hated it not long after. Most of my tattoos are meaningful to me in ways that will always be meaningful - one, as I mentioned, represents a connection to a friend in Europe. Another is a Viking-style armband for my late grandfather, who I absolutely adored and who was Swedish. One is an image from a dream I had that I still couldn’t get out of my head eight years later, and so on. I’ve met too many people who’ve gotten tattoos representing things they were interested in for about five minutes and later got covered up, so I give the one-year guideline as advice to anyone who says they’re thinking about it. But that’s all it is; my personal advice based on my experiences. Being tattooed is all about personal expression, and it doesn’t have to have rules. Well, except for the ones about hygiene and stuff. ---

I don’t have any advise for you about pain, I have a very good tolerence for pain. Both my peircer and my tattoo artist think that and wonder what the hell is wrong with me. But, I did see a neat tattoo that a married couple had. It was japanese writting on each others wrists. They both said husband and wife. I can’t remember which had what, but I personally thought that was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. ---

“A cat scratching your sunburn” was how the woman who did my tattoo described it. She was right, though this wasn’t unbearable by any means, and I got something of an endorphin rush. This was on my arm though - I reckon a finger might be somewhat more painful. ---

I didn’t find getting a tattoo to be too terribly painful. In fact, I relly, really LIKED it. But then, I may just be odd. ---

RahRahMah, there are tons of attractive women with tattoos. Go pick up a tattoo magazine and see for yourself. I say go for it, you’ll be fine. ---

When I played guitar a lot, I used to wear my wedding ring on my right hand. Not an ideal solution though, because my right ring finger is thicker than my left. Nowadays I just take off my rings to play. The guy who did most of my tattoos had a few finger-ring tattoos that he did on himself. I didn’t ask, but I would imagine that it would hurt quite a bit more than a tattoo on, say, the shoulder. But tattooing isn’t usually all that painful. I doubt that it would be unbearable. Then again, since it’s kind of an unconventional wedding symbol anyway, there’s no need to restrict it to the finger. A buddy of mine has his “wedding tattoo” on his ankle. (Maybe because it’s where a ball and chain would be attached?) In any case, [Leviticus](http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?passage=LEV+19:27-29&language=english&version=NIV&showfn=on&showxref=on) tells us that tattoos irritate God.
