Tattoos

Fair point. That’s a good example.

If anything they seem to have gotten more popular. I wonder if there’s any data on that?

Inked people are not of my karass. And so it goes.

Definitions found via Google;

karass. Noun. (plural karasses) A network or group of people that unknown to them, are somehow affiliated or linked, specifically to fulfill the will of God.

A group of people linked in a cosmically significant manner, even when superficial linkages are not evident. Created by Kurt Vonnegut.

I’ve never cared for tattoos. I’ve seen some interesting and complex ones, but have never seen a woman made more beautiful by one… or more. YMMV, of course.

What leads you to believe these people went to someone with a medical degree to get any of this stuff done?

Lots of amateur surgeons in the body modification world. I’m sure they try to keep things properly clean and sterile, but they don’t have medical training and don’t have access to anesthesia, painkillers, ability to write prescriptions if an infection requiring antibiotics occurs…

Apparently, for some people the pain involved is part of the whole thing for them.

It’s not for me, but whether or not I approve doesn’t matter. Not my body, not my decision.

Well we’re all allowed our opinions. In my opinion, I think most tattoos look a bit grubby and don’t improve appearance. And look worse as the skin ages. But I don’t give a stuff if other people want to get one.

Heck, I saw a couple of grandmas with tats showing at the state fair more than a decade ago.

Exactly. I tend to lump tattoos in with beards, hairstyles, makeup styles, etc… these days.

Except for people who have facial tattoos or other tattoos that are obviously visible like that- those tend to be a little bit more of an indication of something other than just an everyday lifestyle choice.

When I first read the original post, I was thinking it had to be a zombie. Tattoos have been a thing since about 1999-ish or even before. There are plenty of forty-fifty somethings with lots of tattoos, which I’d have thought would make it super-uncool, unless it’s become so normalized that no young people think of them that way.

You’re right - another articleon Damon mentions “his surgeon”. And then mentions that he’s a medical school dropout.
