# Tax implications of a Flexible Spending Account forfeit

If I sign up for a Flexible Spending Account but don’t spend all the money (on either health care or dependent care, depending on the account), I lose the money I didn’t spend. But is it still pre-tax? Or would the unspent funds then revert back to being considered taxable income?

Yeah, it was taken out of your income, and never taxed.
