Dear FTG,
That’s condescending, don’t you think? Not everybody is conversant with Facebook. I am not, which is why I asked the question. Isn’t the spirit of this board free and open communication, with no one chided for seeking knowledge?
I don’t suppose you happen to be well-informed about (to name just two subjects that interest me) Jane Carlyle or about infantry deployment in the Napoleonic Wars? Well I am, and I would _never_ jeer at you if it transpired that you aren’t familiar with the phrase “Say that health and wealth have missed me” or with “Now Maitland! Now’s your time!” – two quotes that are as meaningful to me as as the two pop culture references you cite are to you.
I am assuming that you are young? Ah yes, the narrow world view of the young: anyone or anything not hip is to be derided. Don’t worry, my dear, with experience and some reading, maybe some travel, you’ll grow into civility and a broader habit of mind.
I’ll be off now, to await my probable banning because I didn’t put this in the Pit. It will have been worth it.

Also, LolCats is not really a Facebook thing. It originated with the website [i can has cheeseburger](http://icanhas.cheezburger.com/).

I referred to “two pop culture references,” you puling little pedant. I did _not_ say that LolCats has anything to do with Facebook.

I guess next up is explaining to people the concept of a joke. As in … I expect _in the future_ we will need to explain other no longer popular tech stuff. I think we can safely assume that people are still dimly aware of MySpace after all, but probably not much longer.
Take a chill pill **Tante Dillie**. A really, really big chill pill. It wasn’t directed at you or anyone else in this thread.
(I must apologize however. I thought it was “haz” and not “has”. LOLCat spelling is not logical for some reason.)

Calling someone a “puling little pedant” is obviously an insult, which is against the rules, even leaving aside the flipped bird.
Someone made a joke that didn’t seem particularly directed against you – even if it were, this response would be completely out of line.
If you really want to get banned, racking up warnings is a good way to go about it.
