> As a basic tea, I’ll second the recommendations for English Breakfast. Oolong is also good (that’s the kind of tea you generally get in Chinese restaurants). Darjeeling and Orange Pekoe are also good (Orange Pekoe is the stuff that’s sold as generic tea). Bigelow and Twinings are both good brands you can find pretty much anywhere.

Because I didn’t know this myself for many years, I’ll add to this that orange pekoe has nothing to do with the fruit/flavor orange. “[Orange pekoe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_leaf_grading)” is a tea industry term that refers to high quality black tea.

If you DO want black tea with additional orange flavor, Bigelow’s “Constant Comment” is a popular choice. Trivia: this also happens to be the specific tea Leonard Cohen had in mind when he wrote “[Suzanne](https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2016/11/15/502047665/the-story-behind-the-tea-and-oranges-in-leonard-cohens-song-suzanne)” (“she feeds you tea and oranges that come all the way from China”).

For herbal tea, I agree with those who’ve recommended Celestial Seasonings. They make a wide variety of flavors, so you can probably find something you like.

> **Yorkshire Gold.**. An import that’s available all over Brooklyn. The first tea I’ve been able to drink as a morning beverage without getting a tummy-ache from the tannic acid. My Welsh neighbor tells me that in the Old Country, everyone is loyal to either Yorkshire Gold or PG Tips. I’ve tried PG Tips and I don’t like.

If you like Yorkshire Gold (as do I), but also like stronger teas, try **Yorkshire Red.** A real eye-opener.
