Eh… offense over a missing suffix… offense over the older version of the movement’s name… yeah, ok, whatever… no big deal either way…

For **Chessie** and those slow folks who agree with him. I’ll try one more explanation. You see, middle-aged white men who vote for socially conservative Repubs unwittingly use a term that conjures images of testicles dipping into their mouths as opposed to the manly patriot image they were hoping for. Picture middle-aged white man holding a moran sign and wearing a tricorner hat with a gay man (imagine him as the Village People version of Paul Revere) dangling his testicles into the white man’s mouth. Can you see it, now? Picture it again. Now do you see it?

> > [@](#):
> >
> > The first big day for this movement was Tax Day, April 15. And organizers had a gimmick. They asked people to send a tea bag to the Oval Office. One of the exhortations was “Tea Bag the Fools in D.C.” A protester was spotted with a sign saying, “Tea Bag the Liberal Dems Before They Tea Bag You.” So, conservatives started it: started with this terminology. But others ran with it and ran with it.
> >
> > …
> > The liberal media, to use a convenient tag, went after the protesters with glee. Take Anderson Cooper, the acclaimed anchorman for CNN. He was interviewing David Gergen, the political pundit. And Gergen was saying that, after two very bad elections, conservatives and Republicans were “searching for their voice.” Cooper responded, “It’s hard to talk when you’re teabagging.” He said this with a smirk.
> >
> > MSNBC had an outright field day. Rachel Maddow and a guest of hers, Ana Marie Cox, made teabag jokes to each other for minutes on end: having great, chortling fun at the conservatives’ expense. And here is the performance of another host, David Shuster:
> >
> > “For most Americans, Wednesday, April 15, will be Tax Day, but . . . it’s going to be Teabagging Day for the right wing, and they’re going nuts for it. Thousands of them whipped out the festivities early this past weekend, and while the parties are officially toothless, the teabaggers are full-throated about their goals. They want to give President Obama a strong tongue-lashing and lick government spending.”
> >
> > Shuster went on to say that Fox News personalities were “looking forward to an up-close-and-personal taste of teabagging.” Etc., etc., etc. All the while, MSNBC was picturing Republican figures, and the following words were on the screen: “TEABAG MOUTHPIECES.”
> >
> > Ma and Pa America may not have been in on the joke, but plenty of other people were. On HBO, the lefty comedian Bill Maher commented, “When the year started, ‘teabagging’ was a phrase that referred to dangling one’s testicles in someone else’s face.” And the tea-party protesters “managed to turn it into something gross and ridiculous.” Tuh-dum.
> >
> > After Cooper and the others smirked about “teabagging,” the word went utterly mainstream — although you could say that, if Cooper used it, it started mainstream: because how much more mainstream can you get than a CNN anchor? On ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos, E. J. Dionne, the liberal columnist, spoke of “a right-wing candidate supported by the teabaggers.” The host himself, Stephanopoulos, followed suit. On PBS’s NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, senior correspondent Gwen Ifill used “teabaggers” as well. At the New York Times, Paul Krugman used it in a column. Elsewhere, Roger Ebert used it in a movie review. And so on.

I remember seeing several clips from Faux News using the term teabaggers. Maybe the clips were shown on the Daily Show or Colbert. That’s all I ever watch. Someone else remember this? Anyway, it wasn’t just liberals running with the term after a few conservatives were mentioning it. Fox and Friends etc. were also unwittingly using it. Good stuff!

Keep in mind that there is an organized movement to discredit the Tea Party by maliciously doing things like that, or going to TP rallies and waving racist signs, etc. The people doing that are probably not associated with the TP in any manner other than hating it.

I know you’re a fucking moron, so I’ll explain it to you. It’s calling Democrats, the DemocRAT party. RAT, get it? This is what passes for clever when the average IQ in your party is around 90.

Just imagine, most tea-party worthies are as angry, stupid and ignorant as you are. Some of them are racist too. Is it that much of a stretch to imagine a racist person as uneducated and impotently-ragey as yourself carrying a sign like that?

Not all tea-partiers are racist, but plenty are. For fuck sake, [this idiot](http://www.teaparty.org/) is the one with the [racist sign](http://washingtonindependent.com/73036/n-word-sign-dogs-would-be-tea-party-leader).

You’ll never convince me that Steve Doocey wasn’t familiar with the term Tea Bagging … even before Obama was elected.

Cite? Especially the “organized” part. And while your at it, how can we tell who the “real” tea party folks are? When was the last time someone was ejected from a tea party event for carrying a racist sign, or shouted down for racist comments? As far as I can tell they are all Scottsmen.

Huckabees pretty witty sometimes, but he’s crazy as a duck on acid.

Yeah, but Huckabee is definitely funny.

As for teabagger/tea party. I think the teabaggers are more like the Tea Party with the March Hare, the Mad Hatter and Dormouse. Nothing they do makes any sense but theya re very enthusiastic about doing it.

The reason the term “Tea Baggers” is funny (or at least used to be, it’s a bit old now) is that the _tea partiers themselves_ were the ones that first started using it. You had these sweet little old ladies handing out tea bags at rallies, and huffy old men wearing crocodile dundee hats with teabags hanging off them instead of corks, and vendors selling little brass tea bag pins…and then someone let them in on the secret. That’s hilarious, no question 😃

Do they count?
