Teachers giving misinformation

Actually, this is true. It’s very difficult to perform a triple-back-somersault while masturbating.

Ah yes. The doctor told me once I should stop masturbating. I said “Why?” and he said “Because it’s embarrassing the other patients in the waiting room”.

Oh, yeah! I don’t know if it’s gotten any better, but when I was in school, sex ed was a joke! Basically, it was “This is how babies are made; if you don’t want a baby, don’t do this!” Not once did anyone mention the fact that sex is, you know, fun.

I remember in my sophomore year of high school, Judy Blume had published an adult novel called Forever. The school was about to ban it, because the protagonist, a high school girl, engages in sex with her boyfriend and nothing terrible happens as a result. Fortunately, I had a really cool English teacher that year. She told us the school was banning the book, but if any of us were interested in reading it, she had several copies available!

That’s exactly what I just realized the “alcohol must not be touched!” reminds me of. Based on the Spanish experience, both work about as well :smack:

The evidence now is fairly conclusive that those who drink one or two small alcoholic drinks a day are better protected against heart disease than those who drink nothing at all. (and it doesn’t seem to increase other disease risks substantially either)

Thankfully that neatly describes my drinking patterns, a small glass or two of wine with an evening meal so I hope my children pick up that pattern from me.

Well, I told my daughter that when she confronted me with “even one drink is bad for you!” Yep, I told her that there’s overwhelming evidence that moderate alcohol consumption is actually beneficial, and that her teacher was wrong.

That’s why you have to practice!

HAW HAW HAW! :: slaps knee :: That’s a good one!

Ahh…just a simple misunderstanding then. I was not trying to say that simply touching the vertex is tangent…I was thinking quickly and didn’t write down nearly enough information…I was thinking of a parabola sitting on a line, akin to y=x^2 and the x-axis, and obviously didn’t actually write that down in my post.

And thus smart teachers have longer lives than stupid teachers.

I’ve mentioned these before, but they stick in my craw, so be educated, former teachers-

The reason the Panama Canal has locks is because it saved a whole lot of digging, not because the Pacific would flood the Atlantic or vice-versa.

The Panama canal connects the Caribbean Sea to the Gulf of Panama, not the Atlantic ocean to the Pacific Ocean.

Don’t try to tell me the Gulf of Panama is in the Pacific or the Caribbean is part of the Atlantic Ocean- If they were, we wouldn’t have different names for them. The canal allows travel from the Atlantic to Pacific, and the Suez canal allows travel from the Arabian Sea to the Atlantic, but no one tries to say the Red Sea is part of the Arabian Sea or the Mediterranean is part of the Atlantic!

I’ve heard too many high school science teachers mispronounce meiosis. Check any dictionary- I dare ya!

Under this logic, there’s no Ohio-Indiana border.

What I mean here is that some teachers told me that a ship can enter the Panama canal directly from the Atlantic Ocean and exit it directly into the Pacific. That just ain’t so. One has to leave the Atlantic, cross the Caribbean, go through the canal, leave the canal, and cross the Gulf of Panama to the Pacific.

I refer to my previous comment.

But it makes no sense. Ohio does directly border something called Indiana- the canal has the Caribbean at one end and the Gulf of Panama at the other end. The Atlantic ocean is about 1000 miles away from the northwest end of the canal, and the Pacific is about 90 miles away from the southeast end of it.

are you being pedantic or just dense?

The Gulf of Panama is a gulf in the Pacific Ocean

A gulf in the Pacific Ocean.

When one exits the Panama Canal, one is in a gulf** in the Pacific Ocean**.

Don’t try to tell me Illinois is in the United States. If it was, we wouldn’t have a different name for it!

OK. I shut up now. But I’m sticking to the reason for the locks!

:rolleyes:You’re kidding right?
