I am late to the Ted Lasso party because I only just got Apple TV a few months ago but my wife and I watched it and loved the show. The ending seemed like a good one for the characters but Apple announced today the show is coming back.

Looking forward to it. There’s a whole long thread about the show around here somewhere.

I don’t think it will be good, the well was dry and the series had a perfect finale.
I hope I’m wrong.

Overall, I have a lot of faith in Bill Lawrence, they wouldn’t be doing this if he didn’t have a good idea.

Scrubs comeback was excellent.

unfortunately, I kind of feel the same. The first season was incredible, the second season was fine, the third season was pretty bad…I’m not sure I want to see the fourth season

I’m the rare outlier who loved all three seaons of the show. And while the ending was appropriate, I’m excited for a new chapter. I’ve read that the next season will feature him coaching the women’s squad.

Just watching the Cubs game and they pointed out Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) in the stands. Apparently he is doing a one-man show here, which I will attend and report back on. 😎

I’m with those who thought the seasons slowly went down hill. The first season was great. Even if some of the characters were a bit cartoony and not that deep it added to the fun of it.

It was when they started to flesh out some of the characters a lot of them went from charming to annoying and I lost interest. Didn’t need to see Rebecca hava fling with a player. Didn’t need to see Nathan go bad. Didn’t need to see Jamie have a midcareer crisis. Didn’t need to see Keeley at her job. Not a lot of fun in that.

First new episode was pretty good. But I’m kind of disappointed in them that they didn’t show any type of acknowledgement or memorial for Anthony Head in the end credits, like shows typically do when someone connected to it dies.

I didn’t notice this, but the New York Times recap ([gift link](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/05/arts/television/ted-lasso-recap-season-4-premiere.html?unlocked_article_code=1.3FA.8vng.2e9Yz4scFJI2&smid=url-share)) pointed it out.

> Careful viewers of the show may recall a couple of past references to a “Ronnie Fowch,” who bullied Ted as a schoolboy and was fond of a grotesque prank that involved getting someone to eat something he had put in a Butterfinger wrapper that was not a Butterfinger.
>
> Well, we’ve already cited the name of the grocery store. If you look closely, you’ll see that Ted’s boss, the store manager, has “Ronnie” on his name tag. And, yes, that is indeed a Butterfinger that Ronnie is eating. This particular candy bar looks legit. But the rule stands: If he offers you one, you definitely say no.

As for the episode, it was only okay as a way to set up the new season; it was a little awkward having Rebecca, Keeley and Higgins wandering around Kansas City. (And surely Ted Lasso could have found something other than assistant supermarket general manager to do?)

Re-watching the first episode. They’re at Henry’s soccer game. After Ted’s mother points out that they’re in Kansas City, Missouri and _not_ Kansas City, Kansas,
Rebecca asks, “How many cities are in this city?”
“Two,” replied Ted and his mother in unison.

Nice callback to the pilot episode. Ted, “How many countries are in this country?”
“Four,” replied Beard and Nate in unison.

I think they chose that to reinforce that he’s home, but he’s not really home. He’s not coaching. He keeps all his Richmond mementos sequestered away in one room (a home away from home?) like someone who has arrived but hasn’t unpacked yet.

He’s in KC with Henry, but he’s still unsettled.

Which I guess sort of chops the legs out from under the ending of season 3 if being there for Henry isn’t enough for him. At least they sort of addressed that when he called out his mom for telling him to take the job.

This episode did a great job of establishing that he made so much effing money coaching for Richmond he can work part time as an assistant grocery store manager (probably making a little more than 40 grand a year) and can have a large house in the suburbs and be very comfortable.
BUT
He lives for Henry and that’s not fullfilling him as much as he wished it would. Everyone including Henry sees it.

@zbuzz may be right that Ted is unsatisfied back in Kansas City. But surely he could find fulfillment as a college or high school coach helping kids “be the best versions of themselves.”

He certainly could - but not with the flexibility and limited hours of responsibility that a 9-5 job provides. College and high school coaches put in crazy amounts of hours.

Like a lot of tv shows, you have to sacrifice some realism for the sake of establishing a narrative. So they put Ted in this twilight state of being with Henry but also at Fouch’s Fine Foods (do yourself a favor and stay away from the Butterfingers) where the best Tedding he can do is to trick a young bagger into putting back the cigarettes he stole.

side note
this might be my turn to overthink it, but what’s the deal with those cigarettes? if Ted doesn’t give them back to the customer, the store is effectively stealing from her. If he does give her back the cigarettes, he’s giving cigarettes to a sick older lady on oxygen. Neither of those scenarios strike me as Ted-approved. I wonder if it’s going to be resolved in a Ted-like manner or if it’s just dropped.

Also, they were Red Apple cigarettes, so apparently Ted Lasso takes place in the Quentin Tarantino universe. I’d pay real money to watch Ted and Jules having a conversation in a diner. I bet they’d be like 2 little Fonzies.

Ted: “And they have soccer in England, but they don’t call it soccer”
Jules: “They don’t? and how do they call it?”
Ted: “They call it football, weirdly enough”
Jules: “And how do they distinguish it from real football?”
Ted: “They think soccer is the real football and football some kind of weird Rugby for cowards…”
