Just out of morbid curiosity, does Ted consider himself a Christian or America a Christian country? Because the irony of accusing Muslims of lying about Islam being a religion of peace, of being nothing but heartless genocidal murderers, and then calling for the extermination of over a billion Muslims is a little hard to stomach. I wish I hadn’t already taken my iron supplement; I may have to call poison control. ---

The people had been so conditioned to accept the words of the government that the shifting alliances in the ongoing wars could be announced in mid broadcast and the people would accept them without question. In the midst of a report about the war, Oceania, which at the start of the broadcast was an ally, was suddenly reported to be the enemy. When the protagonist asks whether they were not at war with Eurasia, his neighbor replies that, no, they are at war with Oceania, “We have always been at war with Oceania.” **Weirddave** was suggesting that “suppressing” Nugent’s opinions is tantamount to embracing the world of thought control portrayed in 1984. (Of course, reading the thread, one might get the sense that **Weirddave** may have conflated the reponses of **TwistofFate** and **Musicat** just to have an opportunity to throw in some Orwell, but the phrase is from 1984.) ---

Actually, they were always at war with Eurasia or Eastasia. The British Isles were in Oceania. ---

Actually, Great Britain was Airstrip One; Oceania was a union of Great Britain and North America. Now I’m going to have to put on that DVD. Boring, pedantic book, but a terrific movie. ---
