It was Ted Williams’s list, remember? He didn’t put his name on it, because even he knows it would be tacky. He put himself out of it because of that and because of conflict of interest. There are many great people in their profession who, if they were to make a list of who was the best, would omit themselves out of modesty or tac. Micheal Jordan would be an example of one today who certainly would. When Bobby Fischer in his prime was asked for his list of greatest players, he left himself out. (Book of Lists 3 or 4). Give the guy credit for showing some tact.
