i was watching American Gladiators, so didn’t see Sinéad O’Connor say “Fight the real enemy” and tear up Pope JP2’s picture on SNL live but i remember all the news channels talking about it the next day(AG and SNL aired at the same time in my market)
i remember when ABC switched to a Colorado Michigan game after the Washington Miami game(probably to sync up prime time) Michigan looked like they had it wrapped up but the Buffaloes came back late but the they were facing fourth down and they throw it for a Hail Mary and it is caught for a touchdown! that was one of the greatest lead-ins to a movie i have seen too(Crocodile Dundee 2)
One comes to mind for two reasons ------ Johnny Carson was doing one of his things about things you could be doing other than watching the Tonight Show. One was “The Honest Politicians Society - he will be meeting with himself to discuss the topic of graft and why can’t I find any”. I was drinking an iced tea at the time and had to blow it out my nose to keep from choking on it while laughing. We were at a “No-Tell Motel” at the time. You may fill in the appropriate blanks as you wish. 
could say once all the hoopla about that game died down i got my remote and flipped to Empty Nest on NBC
