Let’s be precise. If a judge was alleged of having committed such crimes.
If there was any reason to believe that crimes were ongoing that day, appropriate to go into the courtroom to arrest. If the was concern the alleged perpetrator might be a flight risk or destroy evidence. Sure.
But on allegation of a crime without either of those two things? Legal to do but I’d think better to arrest them after the work day, leaving, or at their home.
There is no doubt that the choosing to arrest a judge there for an alleged crime committed in their capacity as judge is intended to terrorize other judges into full cooperation with any ICE operations.
Not only would it be unusual to charge with a federal felony a judge accused of what the Trumpites CLAIM she did, but she doesn’t appear to have done what they claim she did.
Here’s one problem with their claims:
The graphic in that post:
The criminal complaint contains false statements, which fact obviously will form the crux of Dugan’s defense. But just as obviously, forcing her to PUT ON A DEFENSE to false claims is standard operating procedure for the Trump Regime.
I am familiar with the layout of the sixth floor of the courthouse and know that the south elevators are not the closest elevators to Courtroom 615, and therefore it appears that Flores-Ruiz and his counsel elected not to use the closest elevator bank to Courtroom 615.
It’s astounding to me: some of you hate Trump so much that you’re willing to let a monster roam free among us.
A while back Facebook recommended that I “friend” an old co-worker who is mega MAGA and a “Christian”. I did no such thing but I have been keeping an eye on his feed to see how typical MAGA is responding to events. This is what he had to say about arresting the judge: “The socialist commies are what they are and will not get anywhere… They hate America and American’s and do not follow laws…Evil!” They are absolutely brainwashed and will never turn against Trump.
Not only are they brainwashed, but they NEVER encounter any information or facts that might lead them to question the fakery they’ve enthusiastically swallowed.
But on the positive side: they are no where near being a majority. Recent polling (in advance of the “100 days” mark) shows similar patterns; here’s one:
That 13% is your old co-worker-and-friends. The ‘MAGA forever’ types. Everyone else is starting to ask some questions. And when the store shelves are empty in a few weeks, more will start asking questions.
I believe the proper usage is “the S_ _ t-House of MAGA is lying” (with letters excised in consideration of the sub-forum).
There is no need for an arrest. You’d arrest someone when you want to make sure that a person is available for questioning, or to ensure that they no longer present a danger to the public. This is a sitting judge and isn’t likely to suddenly flee and isn’t mugging people in alleys. The arrest was absolutely unnecessary.
However, it does make a show of the administration being “serious” and is a great intimidation tactic for any other judge who dares to oppose the aims of ICE, legally or not. So that is the purpose an arrest serves.
Whether or not you think the arrest is a good idea depends on whether or not you agree with the idea that judges need to be intimidated into falling in line behind what the Trump administration wants to do. Being cruel is the point here. It’s along the same lines as breaking up families at the border years ago. You are trying to simultaneously show that you’re being “tough” for your voter base, and present a deterrent against defiance of your agenda.
I’m sure people on the right were just cheering this move and hoping to see more of it.
