Tell me about legal music download sites

For Canadinas, there’s Puretracks. WMA format only, unfortunately–Linux or Mac users need not apply. :frowning:

Wait a sec., if Kazaa is “illegal”, why does it exists?

Ok. I bought XP and got “with the scene”! I chose itunes based on the recommedations of this thread.

Good advice. This is untrained chimp easy.

It is REALLY easy to drop 30 bucks in a few minutes.

My wife tells me I have to pace myself!

Followup question: I have already burned my songs to CDs, but I want to put them on a portable player for the gym.

Any advantage to using the mini iPod versus buying an MP3 Player of another brand (is an IPod is just Apple’s brand of MP3 player or is there some other advantage to using it?)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’d like to stay on the moderate end of thee price scale.

i have an ipod and love it. they’re great. only the ipod and mini ipods can play the itunes encoded AAC.
the mini ipod is nice and small but is only 4 Gigs for 50 bucks more you can get an real ipod that is 15 Gigs.
the one you choose depends on why you need it if it has to be small go for the mini but if you dont care about size ( like the normal ipod is that big) i would go for the 15 Gig model

Sounds good. $300 is on the higher end of what I wanted to pay, but it still isn’t a $500 player or anything!

I think I will get that one. It is small enough for me (4 inches tall, 2 inches thick).

I can only imagine how small the mini is!

Thanks.

The iPod is the only music player on the market that will play protected AAC music files.

The songs you buy at the iTunes Music Store are protected AAC music files.

Luckily for you, the iPod is a major ass-kicking device, as evidenced by how it still manages to outsell its competitors even after all this time (some retailers reported 20 iPods sold for every one non-iPod player).

Take four credit cards. Stack 'em on top of each other. Viola.

I bought the 15 GB version.

I get it home, and DAMBIT it doesn’t seem to include an adapter to plug it into a USB Port!

I hate when they don’t sell the equipment you actually NEED to use the tech!

What do they get to sell me now?

there is no adapter for firewire to to usb. you need a new conection wire.

here is the link to what you need on apples site, its about 20 bucks so not so bad.

just a note on how to get your battery to last longer. when your charging your ipod on you computer unmount it because the heat from the hard drive spinning will damage the battery after a while.

Will it work with my 1.1 USB or do I REALLY need the 2.0?

There have been conflicting reports.

I remember looking into this when I got my iPod home only to realize I didn’t have a fire wire port. (Grrr.)

Here’s info from iPod Lounge

I’d spent the extra dough and stick a fire wire in your puter tho…it powers the iPod while it’s plugged in.

Actually, a Firewire card would be cheaper. They can be had for $7-8 through PriceWatch , while the iPod USB adaptor is $20.
