# Tell me about living in Cleveland.

To echo **BMalion** , you’re welcome at our dopefests. While they’re small, the quality is pretty good. I’m always there, **Elendil’s Heir** usually comes, **kittenblue** usually makes it, and we have a rotating group to fill it out. Even got **Gfactor** (a lawyer] to make it down to one.

Cleveland is great, there is a river that catches on fire and there’s are a bunch of fat people who are funny and one of them wears too much make up. But it’s OK because you’re constantly surrounded by wacky office co-workers 🙂

I might have to make it to one of those, living in the Cincinnati area as I do. How long does it take to drive from Cincinnati to Cleveland? 5 hours?

My wife and I moved to Cleveland about 2 1/2 years ago from California. I’ll second to almost everything Sigmagirl said. Winters can be extraordinarily beautiful. Most communities in the area keep the roads fairly well plowed and salted. With the proper clothes and accessories, I’ve found winter here much less worse than expected.
I’d say Lakewood (and the westside in general) would be a good starting point. We currently live in Westlake and love it, although we’re moving to Northfield (southeast) in a couple of weeks.

LOL **CelticCowboy** I was just going to offer **Q.N. Jones** a nice condo to buy at a super low price in Northfield 🙂 My friends had a kid and bought a house and are stuck with a condo they need to sell.
I live in and am from Northfield’s neighbor, Macedonia. We’ll be in the same school district. I love it here!
Anyway, **QN** if you want an awesome deal on a condo in Northfield, just a few minutes from Northfield Park, PM me. It’s not “minutes from downtown” or uh…urban, or walkable. But you won’t beat the price!

Typically less… I’ve driven there from Lexington in 5 1/2. …I had a strong tailwind…
I grew up in Cleveland Heights and Chagrin Falls. I haven’t lived there since 1972, but I now go back pretty frequently and always feel like I’m home when I’m there. My cousin and his family live in Cleveland Heights, in the Cedar/Fairmont area, and they love it there. They can walk to a lot of shops and restaurants, and they’re close to Coventry, Little Italy, and University Circle. The downside is that it’s still pretty rough between University Circle and “true” downtown.

We’ve just bought a house there, and are expecting delivery of a shiny new daughter a little later this summer. We like the area a lot, and have heard very good things about the schools. It’s always nice to confirm things, though.
And I’m not selling a condo, but I can recommend a decent apartment complex in Westlake that will have an opening as of June 1st.

One of the nice things about Cleveland is that the old neighborhoods weren’t torn down in the '60s and '70s like they were in many cities of similar size.

One of my good friends is selling her wonderful house in Lakewood for a very good price…PM me and I’ll send you a link! \*\*Lillith Fair’s \*\*house out in the suburbs sold in two days, so unfortunately that isn’t an option for you. I love living in Cleveland…well, the west suburbs, but I work downtown. The winter’s aren’t THAT bad, especially if you are on the Westside. The snow is much worse in other states! Right now it has been raining too much, but that’s pretty much the story around the country. My daughter moved to Greensboro NC and feels that Cleveland’s restaurant scene is much, much better…and the road system. And my son moved a ways south of Des Moines and misses the easy access to airports, shopping, schools, hospitals…heck, around here you trip over hospitals and clinics every few blocks! Especially in Westlake…seems there’s a branch of University Hospital or a Cleveland Clinic literally every two miles!
And as I tell people, we don’t get mudslides, we don’t get firestorms, hurricanes and tornadoes are almost non-existent, drought is not the norm, no fire ants, no kudzu, practically no earthquakes that get noticed, flooding is localized and rare, there is plenty of electricity and fresh water, and they haven’t started limiting how many bags of trash you can put out in most places.
Saw more panhandlers at intersections in Greensboro than I’ve ever seen in Cleveland.

I like Parma. Houses are as cheap as you can imagine. West Side Market, Sausage Shoppe, 8 Italian Bakeries/butchers within city limits. Postage stamp yards and easy access to the highway. Also plenty of buses to downtown. I don’t live there, but I would not mind it.
