You don’t _have_ to wear slippers if you like walking around in bare feet. But it’s cold here (not just cool but actively cold) and wearing warm fuzzy slippers is a delight as well as a necessity to stay warm in the house. In the summertime I don’t bother and just walk around barefoot. I’ve linked to my actual slippers of preference in the other thread, because I like ankle-covering fleece-lined slippers. What you like is up to you, although I would suggest not buying them from Mike Lindell. ---

I did not used to wear slippers, then my gf went to Iceland for a week with a friend from work. I stayed home. I go barefoot indoors quite a bit. But for colder winter days, and for casual jaunts to the supermarket or to walk the dog I appreciate my pair of suede fuzzy-lined rubber-soled slippers, which have held up well over the past couple of years. ---

My feet are almost always (a) cold and (b) sweaty, pretty much regardless of the temperature in our house. So I generally wear some kind of slipper indoors (Canada being a country where one generally takes off one’s shoes when entering a house) with socks on as well, to soak up some of the sweat. In the winter, I like fuzzy/fleecy slippers but the fuzz will eventually get matted down by my sweaty feet. I got one set of slippers with a foam-style sole; they were comfortable, but they basically never got dry because they were so sponge-like (ew). Ankle-covering slippers sound good from a heat perspective, but I prefer something with no heel that is easier to slip on and off (and also my socks will cover my ankles). LLBean Fuzzy Slippers are worth every penny. I own 2 pair - a newer, fuzzed-up pair for around the house and a pair that are almost fuzzless that make great camping footwear for midnight trips to the Little Boys Bush. ---

On carpet or rungs, slippers are only needed is it is really cold. But during the winter, even here in SoCal, I wear slippers on the stone floors. Real shearling wool slippers are best, skip the fake crap. ---

I have two pairs. Fuzzy fleece (on the inside) for bare feet, and foam-soled with more support for wearing with socks, which is 90% of my day. Bare feet? Cold floors, stepping on things, stubbing toes, dirt. I love my slippers, effete aristocrat that I am. ---

I wear slippers because we have tile and hardwood throughout the house which makes going barefoot uncomfortable, and wearing just socks puts holes in them rather quickly. So slippers it is. ---

The first time you break a toe because you weren’t paying attention, footwear becomes a requirement. If you are diabetic and don’t wear something on your feet at home, you’re just begging for a big problem. I was admonished by my doctor about this, and yes, I did break a little toe when I smacked it on the baseboard heater about twenty years ago. It’s a gift that keeps on giving. I wear a pair of Sperry Topsiders when inside. Fuzzy slippers just make my feet sweat. ---

Being retired, I wear slippers for about 90% of my waking hours. Besides the cold, I wouldn’t want my bare feet to walk in the kitchen. I can also step outside without putting anything else on. I’ve never found any nearly as good as those from LL Bean. I like their mocs also, but the damn laces come untied too much. ---

I wear slippers except when it’s very hot, which is when I break out the indoor only sandals. I don’t like being barefoot unless I’m on the beach. I have some minor neuropathy and I have a tendency to move my toes around in my slippers and the fuzz gets matted, so I buy inexpensive Dearfoams slippers twice a year. ---

I wear slippers whenever I’m in the house. (In the summer, I wear flip-flops). I like slippers that are shaped more like a shoe so that there’s a back on them. Whenever I’ve had the kind that are slip-on without a back I’ve found them uncomfortable because you have to grip the insoles with your toes when walking, especially going up stairs or they fall off. ---

I don’t get the appeal – never had a single pair I liked – but I do have a beloved 40-year-old pair of Sperry Topsiders from high school. They are unsightly but very easy to slip onto bare or socked feet, and I use them for trips to the garbage cans or other quick forays into the driveway area. So (talking through this out loud) I guess they are functionally slippers. Huh. I wear slippers all the time. Who knew.
