I’m pretty sure I’ve heard this monster roar in countless movies, parodies, video games, and as a general scream for demonic hellspawn. I was reminded of it watching the South Park episode “It Hits the Fan,” because they use it for the dragon. The only clip I could find of the sound from a specific source I remember was from good old Doom, when the Spider Mastermind sees you:

[Clip 1](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1Y8YorP94w) around 11 seconds
[Clip 2](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXpXYFFHfR8) around 2.5 seconds

Does this sound have an industry name? Where did it first appear? What _is_ it? Does it involve sacrificing a goat? Is it the true voice of Cthulhu? Give me the straight dope!

Thanks.
