I am remembering some sort of weirdy glow-in-the-dark board game fortunetelling widget thing.
It had this weird black/green eye thing in the middle of the board, and it dropped a ball bearing on a track which ran around the board. Eventually, the ball bearing would stop, and from the slot where it stopped, you would draw a card, which would supposedly bear your fortune on it.
For some reason, the word “Zo-Kalar” is associated in my memory with the durn thing.
Anyone else remember this, or am I nuts?
I was afraid for a long time I was the only one that ever had a lite bright. Phew!
- Etch-a-sketch … try and make curves on that baby when the car is moving and erasing every 2 miles.
- a Gem doll … she was a 6ft version of barbie, but more proportionate for us … err… non size 0 girls.
- cabbage patch kids … I took mine everywhere.
My two favorites were Sizzlers and the Vertibird.
I have had many of the things listed, including Star Wars figures, the 12 inch G.I. Joe (Plus all the accessories), the 6 million Dollar man figures, Legos, Lincoln logs, Play Doh, Tinker Toys, Micronauts figures, etc…
Some things that haven’t been mentioned yet that I fondly remember from my childhood:
-
Evil Knievel motorcycle with action figure and jump.
This would go on a launching platform that you had to rev up, then when you stopped revving it up, the cycle with the action figure would go riding across the floor. If you aimed it right, you could get it to go over the jump that came with the toy. See a picture of it here

I don’t remember the name of this, but it was basically a model construction set which used a battery operated “welding” gun to “weld” the plastic pieces together to make things like trucks, planes, etc. You would put a “welding” piece on the gun, then hold the end of it on the joint you wanted to fuse together. When you turned on the gun, the friction of the spinning plastic piece on the joint would melt it and fuse the 2 pieces together. Please let me know if you happen to know what this was called.
-
Hot Wheels.
I had a whole collection of hot wheels cars as well as a huge track with battery powered motors that would shoot the cars around the track. At age 5 I had figured out how to place the motors so that they would keep the cars going around and around the track.
-
Star Trek Communcator Walkie-Talkies.
These were an absolute blast. My brother and I had these and used to run around the house talking to each other with them. Pictures of them here.
-
Mickey Mouse Record Player
With this I played all sorts of 33 and 45 rpm records my parents got for me as a kid. Picture here.
