Tell me of your dairy-free life

Poor Tinkerbell. I’d wondered where she had gone. :frowning:

I am avoiding any extra soy in my diet but I used to love Silk brand french vanilla creamer for coffee. My hubby loves the vanilla coconut milk but Whole Foods has so many other options.

I will second this statement and add that when it is mixed with the Kroger brand powdered ranch mix it makes a very fine ranch dressing.

:smack: That’s right. Say no to fae cruelty!

lavenderviolet reminds me that we also endorse the Tofutti sour cream.

And thank you, Nava, for discussing lactose vs. dairy. Dairy-free is definitely much stricter!

Hands down, the best cream replacement I’ve ever tried is MimicCreme. It’s nut-based, and while not as awesome as the real thing, it makes for very tasty desserts, cream sauces, etc. They have different versions for coffee, whipping, and regular cream replacement.

I was dairy-free while I was nursing. For me, what I really, really missed was having a non-meat, low-fat way to get protein. Especially if I am trying to lose weight, I do best on a fairly high protein diet, and no yogurt and especially no cottage cheese was a nightmare. There’s only so much chicken I can eat.

My point is that if/when there are other food restrictions at play, what seems manageable suddenly becomes a lot more complicated. I’d go though the allergy testing. Putting things on the “absolutely never” list when they don’t need to be there will be a greater PITA in the long run–remember, we are talking about the next 50 years.
