You are so right, folks do get huffy! He’s currently taking a nap because we are going over to my BFF’s place for supper in an hour. He’s deaf and has problems hearing women and children even with his hearing aids so spending hours with a group of young and younger people he doesn’t know isn’t going to be a bunch of fun for him, but he is going to go and be seen to be enjoying himself because he loves me and knows that I will enjoy it. Something else not mentioned is that plants can and do clash. I’ve seen some horribly ugly plant arrangements recently and know better than to ask what the designer was thinking, but I sure do think it really loud. ---

“OMG you’re an idiot.” This is what I’m not supposed to say on Nextdoor even though sometimes I really, really want to. Is it a thing where you can give away items? I have some really quality household goods I don’t want anymore and I feel bad throwing them out, so I thought maybe NextDoor would be a good place to see if anyone could use them. Is the site used in that way? ---

If you’re on flakebook, there are buy nothing and gifting communities in many areas I felt no grief when my mom passed. I felt a lot of grief when my cat Shadow had to be euthanized. ---

Children are terrible. They’re loud, obnoxious, and exhausting. Never having had any myself, one afternoon with my friends’ kids (who are, it should be said, pretty great as kids go) makes me want to take a ball-peen hammer to my junk to make sure I don’t ever end up with any by mistake. Whenever any of our friends (especially the ones with no kids) announces that they’re having one, I’m outwardly happy for them but actually deeply disappointed. I know we have to perpetuate the species and all…but do we really? Haven’t we had a good run? ---

I’ve also found it useful for recommendations of local plumbers, mechanics, etc. I just ignore the BS. ---

I’ve never been wild about kids, but wanted one anyway, and honestly he’s fantastic, but you are not obligated to think so. I’m not suddenly more interested in others’ children now that I have one. I’m annoyed when people minimize the stressors of having kids, like they are trying to get you to join their cult. It’s not for everyone. And in my case, one is sufficient. The one exception I’ve made to sharing photos/videos is I have a hilarious video of my then-18 month old son trying and failing to mount a scooter. He gets his foot caught in it and falls over, in slow motion, with his feet tangled in the scooter, wheels-up, and he makes these helpless “eehhh” noises while he lies on the floor, softly flailing. His father is filming and laughing. And from off-camera you can hear me say, “What are you doing to our son?” “He’s doing it to himself, I’m just documenting.” I had to share that one with coworkers. ---

The right needs to do the math. If they were a majority, they wouldn’t need to destroy democracy; they’d be able to win fair elections. If the right keeps attacking democracy and keeps attacking the rule of law, eventually people will lose faith in the government. And when that happens, the only thing that matters is which side is bigger. Charles I, Louis XVI, Jefferson Davis, and Nicholas II are all examples of what happens next. If you want the system to protect you, you’ve got to protect the system. ---

I agree with this. It can be said kindly! If I make something DH doesn’t like, I’d rather he say so than be silently resentful every time I go to the effort to make it. And that goes for most everything… ---

Out of curiosity, I signed up for this NextDoor thing. My address is apparently surrounded by a sea of green (depicting the neighborhood zone all around me), but I am in an awkwardly-hacked slice in the middle of it. Thus, I am not in a recognized neighborhood. My options now are to start a NextDoor zone myself (no) or…wait for someone else to do so. I’d have to clear the cookie to even see what nearby zones are saying/doing. Ah well. I didn’t want to join your party _anyway_.
