Pennsylvania gets snow but not as bad as farther north. That area gets 2-3 “bad” storms a year, outside of that the snow usually does not accumulate enough to seriously throw your life out of whack.
No more than you get crippling heat in Texas. No, snow on the ground does not equal calls for alarm. The local news will have you believe it does of course. I’d say one snowstorm a year makes people late for work but from my knowledge employers are understanding.
Also, further north of Western PA gets it much worse. Even my hometown 90 minutes east gets it worse. As far as ethnic restaurants go, there are a few good outliers in the suburbs of Pittsburgh but most of the ethnic places are in the city. We got Vietnamese cuisine 2-3 years ago but have had Thai and Filipino for awhile. Indian here, while sparse, is particularly good due to the universities and medical centers. Unless you like something truly exotic, we’ve got just about everything.

DoctorJ** is right about his area of the south, that’s a damn nice area. How is home affordability though?
I scheduled a trip to Austin at the end of this month. We’ll see how I like it there. I have no problem going to a few other areas later on.
Pittsburgh actually sounds okay but since I hadn’t considered that area before I need to stew on it a bit.
What is the job market like in Greensboro or Louisville? Lots of mid size/big companies?
I went to “findyourspot”
The results.
- Portland, OR (born there, but my parents moved us to the Bay Area before I started school)
Next - Three Bay Area cities. I’ve lived in San Francisco for the past 30 years, Oakland 7 years, Many relatives live/lived in San Jose. I grew up in a suburb that didn’t make the list.
And a town I’d love to move to if I had a chance - Long Beach, CA (Belmont Shores is 99% perfect ). A few relative live there too.
I don’t want to leave SF. But if the stars, moon and sun line up right, I’m going to Long Beach.
The most spot on Internet quiz i’ve ever taken.
