So, I’m sitting here jerking off over an 11 year old being abducted and murdered?!? And by posting a thread expressing rage over this makes me as bad as him?!? Go back to bashing Bush, that seems to be your expertise. Ooops, careful, being mad means you agree with that which makes you mad.

DtC is voting for Bush in 2004!!!

> On a more serious and less hyperbolic note, as long as the death penalty exists there will be mistakes. It’s not a risk, it’s a mathematical certainty. States which employ the death penalty are aware of this and are condoning innocent deaths in pursuit of some Utilitarian idea of a greater good. Repeatedly. I object to the death penalty, partially because I feel that life imprisonment is a harsher punishment but mainly because I object on general principle to living under a Government that kills innocent people in a far crueller and more deliberating fashion that the murderer’s we’re supposed to be punishing.

The mathematical certainty would certainly apply to ALL convictions then, yes? With that argument, and all cites of wrongly convicted, we have to let all prisoners out of prison as they might be innocent.

I don’t wanna side with **Shodan** , but dammit, I’m gonna have to.

Can you name an executed prisoner, convicted since the reinstatement of the DP, that was later found to be innocent?

Yes, there have been those who have been wrongly convicted. And in some of thos cases, there has been great abuse by the prosecuters. (as in the [Rolando Cruz](http://www.nodeathpenalty.org/newab011/rolandoCruz.html) case). But it does seem that the safeguards (2 stage trial, lengthy appeals process) seem to be working.

Hate to sound like a fence-sitter, but I am divided thusly:

I am against the death penalty. Thou shalt not kill. Superego.

I find myself feeling that I would like this horrible man to die. Id.

_sigh_ still on page 2 of 3 and trying to get through quotes. When someone shows me where I said the state should have killed him, please let me know. My mistake was wishing a general death on him at least 2 hours before he took her. Oh, did I forget to mention it was on videotape?

The Hollywood Liberal needle was about the latest stars (Washington, Garafaolo, et al) coming out for a convicted murderer whom took 4 familiy members lives. Discard that, I should have kept to the case I ranted about.

I do want to, however, include Dru Sjodin. Google her name and you’ll see why I’m so pissed about ex-cons that are released when they have proven they are nothing but parasites to society.

Concerning the Death Penalty, I await anyone to tell me why Jeff Dahmer, Ted Bundy or John Gacy should have been spared death. Yes, Dahmer was killed, but do you know it was because he was in the same room as another man who killed his wife, whom tried to blame the murder on a black gang member?

Too bad they died. We could have been treated to decades of Manson-esque reasoning.

When someone can convince me that the DP for these 3 is reason to outlaw it based on possible doubt, I’ll change my mind. Keep in mind, I had an apartment 3 blocks from Dahmer when he was busted.

Life in prison? OK, I’m not bloodthirsty, despite what the “enlightened intellectuals” want to say. How about this? Give them Life, but thier lives end at conviction. This means they get the paid room, but the world is stuck in the world they were in when they killed. Follow me here.

Any book written at time of conviction is available to read. Any movie may be seen if it was before the murder.

The rule applies to all things the victim will never experience. If the victim doesn’t get to enjoy a new movie, novel, sex, contact with loved ones, interaction with friends, why should the criminal? That way, on the off-chance it was a wrongful conviction, at least the convict can make up for lost time.

The dead can’t appeal

So, by that you meant some form of magical, spontaneous, pre-cognitive, duffer-righteous, non-state-inflicted death?

My main objection to the death penalty is the power it gives the state over life.

His life today, yours tomorrow.

So the state has no right right to say if I can “pull the plug” on a loved one? What about my parents being put in the position of caring for my brother? He had encephalitis and spina-bifida. he had no chance of living past 5 years. This was back in the late '60’s. Because of the extraordinary medcial attention needed, he was required to be hospitalized. being a state hospital, it was up to them. Fast forward to January of last year, my mom died and the bill came due.

There’s your state controlling life. I just wish my brother could have had the option of a painless needle.

I disagree, I DO have firsthand knowledge of being the victim (not of murder obviously).

I personally think that a lifetime sentence is what is warranted, and NOT because I have "compassion: for some subhuman, because I think that prison is much harsher than death.

Especially for child molesters, many of whom want to take the “suicide by cop” route and wanting the state to take all the responsibility for putting them out of their misery. For them especially, I think that they should have to have the rest of their lives, AWAY from little kids to have to think about it.

Think about it every day.

We need _some_ form of corrective punishment. There will always be mistakes whatever punishment we impose. That sucks, but it’s a fact of life. Given this, logically it stands to reason that enforcing _irreversible_ punishments is a very, very bad idea.

You said:

So, I found this quote from your OP which said:

> [@](#):

To which I replied in the same post:

WTF are you slurping about? Who ever said the state killed the girl? Try putting away the mind-altering substances when posting here, 'nK?

And then, this:

Fair enough. But the victim can no longer enjoy even these things. I say if you’re not gonna kill 'em, deprive them of _all_ of life’s pleasures. No books, no movies, no t.v., no newspapers. Food, enough medicine if they need it to keep them alive, and maybe a place to sleep…and that’s it! If it’s truly to be life without parole, there’s no need for rehabilitation, and after all they are \*supposed \* to be being _punished_.
