People. Do you not remember the chaos of the pit cleansing? It almost ripped the board apart. Miller basically saved the SDMB single-handed by finding the tiny sliver of the Venn Diagram that was moderation that would keep Ed happy and allow the Pit to function. It’s the single greatest feat of moderation of all time. And y’all want to fuck it up? Seriously? ---

May I just say, for the record, that the Pit rules regarding swearing are completely fucking ridiculous. I thought the whole damn point of the Pit was to tell people who needed to fuck off to fuck the fuck off. The rules are ridiculous, and, as several other posters have noted, _completely_ inconsistent. I can tell a poster that he’s a suppurating buboe on the anus of humanity, but I can’t tell the same poster to fuck off. I can call a poster a deadbrained chromosomal catastrophe who’s about half as much use as Anne Frank’s drum kit, but I can’t call him a cunt. I can say that a poster’s opinion is about as welcome as a thalidomide baby at a circle-jerk, or that he’s so desperately stupid he has to whistle when he goes to the toilet to remind himself which end to shit through, but I can’t call him a dumb motherfucker. Where’s the logic? If someone wants to call someone a cunt, why not just let them call them a cunt? Why make them jump through hoops to come up with convoluted insults when the subtext (ie. “I think you’re a cunt”) is still perfectly obvious? It’s stupid. Also, this idea that “creative” (read: pretentious) insults are somehow “better” than old standards like cunt or fuck is a load of old tosh. There are _loads_ of ways to be creative with those words. Just ask [Malcolm Tucker](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xe3Ou9xBAlI) **(VERY NSFW!)** _“But…but…cunt and motherfucker are offensiiiiive!!!”_ So what? Your face is offensive. It looks like someone tried to put out a forest fire with a dented spoon. If you’re such a shrinking violet then don’t go in the Pit. The idea of having a flame forum where you can’t use regular flames is retarded. It doesn’t solve a damn thing. All it does is create busy-work for the mods, and I’m sure they’d rather use the time they spend chiding people for bad language doing…well, pretty much anything else. It’s all a big load of old balls :mad: ---

The point of the pit is to have a safety valve for posters who have a beef with one another.
