I wish I still had a brochure from the Illinois Tollway, which I seem to recall promised the elimination of the toll booths in 20 years, which would have been in the 1980’s. Didn’t happen. I’m surprised there was no Carrie Nation-style tollbooth hacking party on the special day as a protest.
An older friend of my Dad, now deceased, had told me that he remembered when they built the George Washington Bridge. It was claimed that to pay for it they would have to charge a toll of 10 cents–for 2 years!
A slight hijack: I worked with the police many years ago. Most states will give you 5-10 mph over the posted limit. If they are giving 21 mph in Kentucky, they’re being very generous. Did the officer show you the clocked speed? If so, how did he jigger it to read higher, as you claim? The guns are re-calibrated after every stop (or should be). You were probably going faster than 76 and the cop just had his gun programmed to lock on 76 as a minimum.
Guess that means those of us who have jobs have to make up your share too, don’t we? Wouldn’t that make people like me, who front your share of the tax burden, your tax-fairy?
So just exactly how much of the money you earn are other people entitled to simply take away from you? At what point do you say enough is enough and that this 70 year old temporary tax needs to go?
Fair enough but for Christ’s sake enough is enough sometimes. The taxpayers agree that they want a bridge and are willing to pay for it at a certain rate for a certain amount of time. When the final payment is made, the tax need to go away, not be redistributed for some politician’s pet project.
I understand the point that getting rid of the bridge tax would just mean that, for example, the sales tax would have to go up. That is a good thing because it will not be so invisible to the tax payers who might be inclined to change their voting habits to change that.
Keeping those taxes going and redistributing the funds to other shit is dishonest and needs to be stopped. Is this so difficult to comprehend? No one here is complaining about taxes, just fake temporary taxes.

I have a job, I pay my bills, and I pay your fucking share of the taxes too, so that you can spend your life sitting on your ass on the Interent all god damn day bitching about how much your teeth suck, how bad your periods are, pretending you know anything at all about sex (or any topic that requires some kind of exposure to the world outside your parents house), and in general thinking that you have some kind of wisdom people should kiss your ass for.
If you don’t have a job, and you don’t have an income, you have no room to tell me about what taxes pay for. My tax dollars fund the things that you use and don’t contribute too, you fucking leech.
